I touched on that a little in another post ,, Its my opinion and only mine , that Hughie, has been training so long, and so much on running away , making them miss , he's become very good at it , but he's not had / got the confidence to let them go , defence , don't get hit , has been drummed into him so much , that now he's not confident setting his feet and letting go , he moves back to get away , not to get away and catch them coming in , theres a difference . He's being taught the art of evading at all cost , to suit his height , build ect. But he's not being taught how to put pressure on and use both hands , he, should let them go without thinking, if he had muscle memory for want of a better term he would , letting them go solid just does'nt come natural to him ,,

Like i said only my opinion , on a boxing site , so its not worth much

PS.. i also think if they don't start getting him to settle on his punches and hit harder, he may has well quit because he won't go any further , Parker could'nt get the big one on him But the likes of Whyte will , theres a reason they would'nt fight Whyte , and its not beacuse there mates .
Good post mate, makes a lot of sense on all fronts. :TU:
Totally :TU:
There are lessons spotlighted for both combatants in that fight. I hope they both go back to the drawing board. Parker needs to control the ring and not telegraph his shots, and Hughie needs to sit down on his and throw more. Let's hope both of them learned something. No one wants a repeat of that performance from either one of them
I don’t disagree with coneye’s assessment, but I mentioned on another thread that Peter Fury said immediately after the fight that he was disappointed with Hughie not throwing his right hand, which surely suggests they must have been working on it in training?

Hughie future? I suspect come back (avoid anyone with a pulse) fight a few blown up 200lbs boxers and then be involved in a title eliminator with Danniel Dubois, i think FW will push for it this time next year. he will fancy Dubois to do a job on Hughie.

Joshua, yeah I agree with that
Whyte and Chisora, more debateable, but I'll grant that as it's not ridiculous. Note Whyte never even claimed he was ducked, H.Fury had health issues etc. that stopped the fight happening.

Tyson Fury would beat him, (though I don't think he counts at this point as he's so inactive), so that'd be up to 4, and that's already a strech.

Dubiois and Gorman are showing potential, but Hughie Fury would've easilly KOed everyone Dubiois has faced, Gorman is more proven, but still at the English title level, he's not fought at close to the level of Fury.

Who else? Haye is just borked at this point, there's no way he could get in and out of range with his heavy fragile body, there's probably no way he could even properly train to do it. Price has been beaten much worse by worse opponents than Parker.

Peter or Hughie tweeted today that they'll be back out in April 2018 :o

Why? Get out as soon as possible, he never took a beaten, he's already been inactive plenty, time to kick on and gain the experience he lacked going in against Parker, everything about his career so far lacks urgency. he should be looking to get out again before the years out

I think Joe Joyce would smash Hughie up, too. the size, engine and bodywork would be too much and I don't think Hughie would be able to keep him off.

They would have to buy an opponent. I could not imagine any of the top ten guys wanting to inflict a stinker fight on their fans.

So another period of inactivity for Hughie. It's time for some home truths I fear because reality should be staring them in the face. Hughie is unknown, he's just sold an absolutely pathetic amount of tickets for a title fight, he's a quiet bloke with not much to say, doesn't have much charisma, appears to have little to no power, his fights are boring, he's just been beaten and to top it off you can't even sell him as a bit of a looker given those at ringside need to take cover when his boils burst.

I don't buy his mystery illness/now cured story. He looked in bad shape and his skin looked as bad as ever at the weekend. That needs sorting - not chopping logs but proper doctors and proper training/conditioning/nutrition. He needs to be active - loads of undercard fights - building awareness that he's someone of note. His career needs ripping up and starting again really.

I'd like to see him fight someone like Dillian Whyte, however, I think because of his style nobody would be interested. Unless they were desperate. The only desperate man I can think of who would take that fight would be Price, and that'd sell in Liverpool. Hughie may win that by kayo, help boost his image, and then maybe take on a murderous puncher like Baby Miller and make that guy look like dog crap which could (in theory) make him appear a master slickster and if he won that'd make him a contender most likely for the Joshua-Pulev winner or Wilder-Ortiz winner.

It's not a mystery illness, it's this IRRC.

And they have been trying to get it treated for a long time, with real doctors, it's just hard to treat, but it also leaves scarring.

This is the first paragraph of your link:

This condition generally begins between the ages of 18 and 30. It usually persists for a very long time, and often until the patient is around 40 years old. Although it often occurs where there is already an active acne problem, it can also happen to people whose acne has subsided. Although the cause of this type of acne is unknown, it is associated with testosterone and thus appears mainly in men. It can be caused by anabolic steroid abuse and sometimes appears in men after stopping testosterone therapy.

It sounds a terrible affliction, hope he gets it sorted.

But he doesn't need a top ten ranked opponent, he needs a couple of knock over jobs so he can get work on getting more behind his punches & then think about fighting someone ranked. Jumping back in there with a decent opponent without making any changes is just going to end with a similar result.

As talented and tough as he is I don't see him ever being a draw, so where next? How much are his team prepared to invest in their quest for the world title? Shame that's how it is.

The biggest problem for Hughie is that nobody will want to fight him unless it's for big money or they are mandated.
With Hughies style he won't put enough bums on seats to generate the big bucks, and he will be a hard and frustrating night for anyone, so I can't see him getting any voluntary defences.

Fight often, start winning, get into the positions where he gets bigger fights.

Plenty of fairly mundane fighters had great careers including world title fights. We accept not everyone fights like Arturo Gatti.

1. Domestic titles building up to getting (and winning) world titles despite not being a massive puncher/having a huge fanbase.

2. John Ruiz. Junior Witter.

John Ruiz is a good shout for what I asked for, I suppose. That he was a rare Latino heavyweight, first Latino heavyweight champ, was his USP and got him the shots he got. Unsure how Hughie can sell.

Witter seems like an even better shout. Anybody know how many tickets Junior used to shift? Also, did he make a decent living out of the sport?

Sorry if you've already said why but why do you think he doesn't sell?

The fight last weekend seemed barely advertised and being stuck on YouTube PPV can't have helped.

He's really skilfull and tough but he's not a compelling watch for laymen. He's also not at all good on the mic. When he first appeared on the scene I saw the potential and thought he'd do great but I suppose I'd got it into my head that he'd be similar to Tyson in personality.

I just can't see people lining up to buy tickets or watch his fights.

I'll watch him but I'm a traditionalist and think his skills are top drawer. I'd like to see him be a little bit more aggressive but with not much charisma and limited power I think he'll always be 'one for the purists'.

I was very near ringside when Witter fought Tim Bradley. pretty much anyone supporting him was there to support one of the other Ingle gym fighters (there were 4 or 5 fighting that night), it seemed to me. the number of people, you know, enthused and 'come on Junior lets have it' on the introductions, cheering good shots, etc, were very minimal. I'd say around 50, seriously, the entire supprt for him seemed to come from a few seats ringside.

I agree with that.

I think it was a mistake putting him in there with so much time off. Providing they don't get the rematch I'd like to see him take a few fights next year to rebuild, they need to get him fighting on big undercards against guys like Chisora who may not be massive fights but are interesting to fans.

I still haven't sat and watched it I listened to it on the radio but he didn't seem out of his depth, just that he was a little to lazy offensively to really take the fight, though the impression I have is the 118-110 cards were too wide. The way they made this fight can't be sustainable.

Hughie needs more than three fights between now and the end of next year.
