Wilder will never get credit here. Although you can tell his chronic bashers are nervous he might win. Deep down they wish he was fighting another also-ran.

Dear boxing fans. Could you name some better name than Luis Ortiz right now?

But ... But ... Ortiz did not look "great" in his recent fights....

But..But Povetkin looked so godlike against Injured Rudenko and Parker was beast against Cojanu and Hughie Fury!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who the eff looked great in their recent fights? :yay:

Wilder, Ortiz or any pro boxers make milions and risk their life. They work every day.

But what you internet trolls and haters do? Sitting behind computer and eating chips?

Hating almost on everyone because you feel insecure? Because you never had anything great in your pathetic lifes?

Even those "bumz" ranked number 100 would KTFO you cold HARD. Because most of you are not even boxers. All you do is talk about others . But you are NOBODIES

You boyz would never face them because all you have is power behind keyboard.

Pathetic

The first half of your post makes a lot of sense. The second half is bound to bring harsh criticism. We all get frustrated, pissed off, drunk, whatever. I'm no saint myself. I'll focus on your excellent point about so many folks already downplaying Wilder's win over Ortiz......just in case he gets it. Guess what? If they didn't, they couldn't bash him so much, or if they did would look stupid doing it. Some people talk up Parker, and think Jennings would be a good fight. (A guy that Ortiz dominated and stopped).

There is always lots of hypocrisy on this board. Joshua went life and death with a 41 yr old guy in his last fight, that looked horrible (HORRIBLE) in the fight before. Joshua got full credit, and then some.....in a fight he should have lost. Joshua didn't want to fight Wilder next, or Ortiz. Wlad turned down a fight with Wilder, as did several others, like Fury (both), Parker, and Martin to name the ones I know of. He is a huge risk to any heavy. I give both guys credit for giving us this fight.

By the way, I try hard to call out anyone to prove I am tougher anymore. Partially because I am getting too long in the tooth, and partially because I know that no matter how tough you are, no one is bullet proof. That is the reality of today's society.
The announcement of this fight made me very happy for you. I don't know when you decided it was your job to be Wilder's "poor opponent apologist and hype-man" but you were always out there going for it and dang it you've earned this! Ortiz is the best available opponent and just 38 fights into his career we'll finally get to see if Wilder is actually world level. It's a win-win-win!! :TU:

That's a terrible example. You know better than that.

Wlad was in a (too much) comfort zone coming into the Fury fight. He got surprised against an elusive man bigger than himself.

Against Joshua he reverted back to the Wlad of old. Kill or be killed. He put up an amazing effort against a relative novice. But age, and/or Joshua's youth/strength got the better of him.

To compare the two fights is naive. I know you're better than that.

I'm sure a lot of Wilder bashing will cease after this fight if Ortiz comes in as a live opponent.
I'm a self confessed cronic Wilder basher, except I really, really want him to win this one! And I promise to change my ways. I have not bashed him once since this fight was signed :-P

it speaks volumes for the BS wilder
has been feeding his fans that this
kind of opponent is perceived as the
biggest thing he could possibly do.

luis ortiz is 38 years old (that age
pretty much all ATGs are retired or
fight their very last bout), never in
these 38 years had a title fight and
never faced a top ten opponent.

reality is this: if wilder had the guts
of AJ, wlad, tyson, lewis, vitali, holy,
foreman, holmes, ali, frazier ... you
know, pretty much any of the people
who once held the title he owns now,
he would man up and face AJ next
saturday.

i would like this to be settled. is
wilder for real on top level or not.
i think he is, but his lack of heart
in match making is a concern for
his mental toughness. he might
be over protected for a reason.

i am still torn, because if you look
at it for real, ignoring that he owns
that belt, he has not done anything
meaningful. in fact i can remember
only one fighter in history defending
a big title in such a calculated way:
sven ottke.

@ badhusker: You're slating Joshua for not wanting to fight Klitschko, Ortiz and Wilder in consecutive fights?

You don't think that's a little unfair considering Pulev is better than anyone Wilder has faced in 9 years?. Wilder has finally stepped up and I believe it will go ahead because Wilder and Haymon actually want this fight. Wilder gets respect for me for that, although I do question whether Ortiz would have been considered if his dismantling of Bryant Jennings had been this year. I suspect not.

@ Ironfrost: I get your point though, that people are talking about Ortiz like he's a fighter that's suddenly got old, whereas in the past people were saying he was very dangerous and Deontay didn't want any part of him. You're not wrong but there is no denying that Ortiz hasn't looked much in his last two fights, and maybe that's why he's finally getting the chance.

I hope Kalan is right about Ortiz making a monumental effort. He clearly believes he can and will win (otherwise why not fight Joshua instead for at least double the money as WBA mandatory?). He thinks he can beat Wilder and then take on Joshua in a unification which worst case scenario sets him up for retirement with a huge golden handshake. You have to admire his self-belief.

So a reasonable initial point to this thread. No need for all the histrionics though - makes you look like a dope.

Without actually knowing how good Ortiz is, I'm not sure. Jennings would probably say Ortiz is better than Wlad. I often wonder if Wlad performed like he did against Joshua, and KO'd Fury, would the fight between him and Joshua happened or would Hearn have said he isn't ready? The big unknown with this fight is how Ortiz will perform. At his best he may KO Wilder. If not, he probably gets KO'd himself. This is the kind of fight most look forward to. I hope it is as good as Wlad vs Joshua. It goes without saying that Wilder desperately needs a top opponent to legitimize his belt. Win or lose he will gain more respect imo.

I don't know what Malik Scott running away from Ortiz and refusing to engage says about how we evaluate Ortiz right now. He prefers someone who will stand and trade with him, but we already knew that.

He is still the most technically sound top rated heavy and power is the last thing to go if you are arguing that his skills are degraded.
