Mairis Briedis vs Mike Perez

Post by handsofstone »

Briedis defends his WBC Cruiserweight title in the 3rd QF of the WBSS this Saturday in what IMO looks a cracker of a fight, its hard to tell how Perez will be at Cruiserweight, he looked in the shape of his life in his last fight but KO'd the guy in a round so its impossible to tell, his careers been up and down but hopefully he's bucked up his ideas if he needs to make weight

Briedis was dominant against Huck when he won the title, boring, boring fight but Briedis moves well and has a great jab, his speed and movement could trouble Perez if the fight goes rounds, both guys are technically good fighters and Briedis coud play it safe again and try to pile up points but I have a sneaky feeling the natural size and power of Perez will make the difference as I reckon Mike could nail and hurt him, he's got the experience of always fighting on the road and has the skillset to deal with a clever boxing CW

Breidis starts as favourite for me, but there is a huge swing factor based on how well Perez adapts to CW.
Really interesting trying to predict this

Perez actually said that his daily routine after Mago fight was drinking 2-3 liters of Captain Morgan. Wouldn't that kind of dose kill a normal person?

I think Perez will struggle at CW. Unfortunately his best weight is probably a small HW which is lost nowadays in the land of the giants.

I'm a fan of Briedis. Has power and showed in Huck fight he can find a rhythm and box to instructions. It was a boring fight but he nullified him.

I fancy Briedis mid-late stoppage. Got a feeling the Perez gas-tank will empty alarmingly quick.

He also liked to drink a shedload of Guinness whilst in Cork apparently.

Just had a look and Mike Perez hadn't done rounds for over 3 years.

We just have no clue what he has at cruiserweight.

I think Breidis is legit though. Even though the Huck fight was poor ( I really did expect that to be explosive) Breidis shown he is more than just a banger.

I'm going Breidis stoppage mid rounds.

Moving to 200 isnt going to make Perez a monster. The top cruiserweights are no slouches and Briedis would probably have been a contender at heavy if he fought there more. look at how he iced fringe-contender charr. has perez scored a ko like that?

perez is live but id be surprised if he was levels above.

I think last week took a few minutes longer than scheduled to actually come on, so bear with it.

Perez is going to look like he's walking through quicksand. I don't think he is going to be competitive.

This fight is an experiment on Perez, can he hold up physically. First will he have core strength and power. Can he take punch. And then if fight goes in late rounds will he have stamina. If he holds up physically I think he should hold his own technically as well. Although he isnt used to a speed of smaller guys and that can be another problem. In short its an intriguing fight.

Perez struggled with Magomedov, Jennings, Takam and Povetkin.i always thought he was a bit overhyped.

Just seen Perez at breakfast .. lost a shit load of weight.

One too note ... Filip Hergovic makes his debut tonight .. some say so what ... Hergovic got a Super Heavyweight Olympic Bronze.

The more knowledgeable posters will know also Hergovic was tge one who cut David Haye in sparring causing the Tyson Fury fight to be called off. Incidentally I was there for all the sparring sessions - at the time a young inexperienced Hergovic more than held his own - he has a promising future
