Deontay Wilder Backs David Haye To Get Revenge on Bellew

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is backing David Haye to even the score when he takes on Tony Bellew in a rematch on December 17th at the O2 Arena in London.

As long as Haye doesn't suffer any injuries in the fight, Wilder believes the London fighter will come away with the victory.

"I think David would've won the first one if he didn't injure his Achilles because he was a handful, but then could hardly walk. Hopefully he doesn't have any injuries in this one because I had him winning in the first one and he can win the second one. David is always injury prone though, which is not good. I went through my own phase but always managed to fight through them and still do well," Wilder told Sky Sports.

Wilder was not overly impressed by Bellew's performance in the first fight. He says Bellew should return back to the cruiserweight division, because he would find himself in a bad position if matched against a real heavyweight. Haye, like Bellew, moved up from the cruiserweight division and many still consider him to be a blow up cruiser.

"Bellew was OK, but nothing special [against Haye]," Wilder said. "He should stay at cruiserweight. At the end of the day they are both cruiserweights. I would love to see Bellew going in against a true heavyweight though, because it's different. A different world to what he's used to."

I can think of a number of reasons why Bellew should not move back down to Cruiserweight. Several of those reasons are currently / soon to be, competing against each other in an elite tournament.

I just realized I thought I was voting for a fit Haye to gain revenge over Bellew but the two poll choices for who would win are Haye and Wilder.

No way do I believe that a 2017 David Haye has more than a 20% chance of defeating Deontay Wilder even assuming he could successfully negotiate a VADA test ;-)

I'm still amazed how many people got convinced by that heavyilly editted footage of Haye sparring WIlder.

Haye is a total shell of himself, Wilder would win and I think KO him.

I believe he would but I'm sure the OP meant Haye or Bellew rather than Haye or Wilder. I don't know if poll choices can be edited when voting is underway.

Would he get pass Mike Perez?

He can't claim to be the best cruiserweight after winning a vacant title. Had he won the light heavyweight title on his 2 chances given.. especially Stevenson, he could claim he was the best LHW..

He wasnt even mando for the WBC title, Makabu was, Bellew was never going to beat Drozd either.

No, I meant Haye vs. Wilder.. Haye vs Bellew has it's own poll on another thread, so I thought i'd see if anyone has Haye beating Wilder.

A fully-fit Haye beats Bellew by late stoppage in dominant fashion.

Deontay Wilder has been David Haye's sparring partner for several training camps, so his opinion is based on personal experience.

The Hayemaker is better than any opponent that 'The Bronze Bomber' has faced, so it's difficult to compare the abilities of both fighters.

I'd have to favour Wilder based purely on youth, size and physical robustness (as in being less injury prone), but it wouldn't surprise me if Haye proves himself capable of stopping the American, since Deontay has been deeply troubled several times throughout his career... and the Brit is very heavy-handed.

That being said, Showtime probably won't allow Wilder to face Haye, since it presents an unacceptable financial risk to a mega PPV event against one of their other contracted fighters, Anthony Joshua.

AJ will inevitably face the winner of Parker vs. (the victor of the Haye-Bellew rematch), leading to an eventual title unification bout against Wilder.

Showtime wants to own an exclusive contract of the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, at the detriment of HBO and ESPN.

I can't answer that because I've only watched Perez as a Heavyweight. I should probably watch the Briedis fight but it sounds like I dodged a bullet there, and I don't think I want to put myself through it.

Then I'm sorry for messing uo your poll. Bear in mind one vote for Haye should be Wilder's. Your poll, your rules but the thread title led me to expect that the poll was to see what percentage of people agreed with Deontay.

I read that as "Deontay Wilder about it" for a second or two there. It seems that today I'm about as sharp as a hairy tennis ball :D

Haye beats Bellew unless his leg gives out again.

Wilder hammers Haye.

That's how I see it. I think the David Haye who destroyed Chisora might well beat Wilder if he managed to avoid getting on the wrong end of that right hand but if he were to fight him now, my advice to Haye would be to start fast, close the range, stay inside and don't stop punching until he's on the floor or you are. Crowd him, batter him, deny him the leverage to use those long arms. Make sure the fight is over quickly (one way or other) Then I'd hope for the best.

Bellew could even move back to light somethingweight if he wants, somehow his last opponent was such a bum, just about anyone could handle him.
I expect Bellew to win the second time as well, unless he got the referees against him.

Same here, I clicked haye thinking the other option would be Bellew without reading it properly

I would back wilder to beat haye now, haye is miles past it.

Still good enough to beat Bellew if fit though

Bellews not a heavyweight. The results are far more brutal for him at heavyweight if he fights the top.

He doesn't even have a punchers chance at heavyweight

100% Bellew isn't doing light heavyweight ever again and couldn't

If Haye beats Bellew it won't be because the ref has helped him. And vice versa

I figure Wilder would prefer Haye to win because Haye is the bigger name, and the bigger draw to fight potentially down the line.
