These are fighting cities that follow their fighters but Liverpool is the most over rated fighting city in the world

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
The Echo looked less than half full last night at it's busiest point. It was almost completely empty during the main event
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Depends who is on,masher is from birkenhead not liverpool and paul butler is from ellesmere port which is closer to chester city than liverpool, put bellew or the smith brothers on and it would sell more,it wasnt advertised around the city as much as it could of been. Not saying your wrong by the way mate just pointin a fact outmullenman wrote:The fighting city of Liverpool. . Ha ha ha

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Was half empty for Callums Smith fight couple of weeks ago and that was with some of the upper blocks being shut and part of the hall curtained off. Same for Liam's last fight there.thechump wrote:Depends who is on,masher is from birkenhead not liverpool and paul butler is from ellesmere port which is closer to chester city than liverpool, put bellew or the smith brothers on and it would sell more,it wasnt advertised around the city as much as it could of been. Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
I've never understood the term "fighting city" certainly when it comes to the UK anyway, I can imagine a city like Detroit being known as a fighting city since it had the most successful gym in boxing history but over this way nah, I mean Dublin? Steve Collins is the only well known fighter I know of from there and he lived in America during his career.
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Dublin is unreal.. Bernard Dunne fights were a sell out in the point and he was average European level. If a good dub comes along they will support. Mcgregor would sell out crokepark 80000 against a bin man. My point is why promoters keep going to Liverpool for half empty shows. Bellend only half filled the echo three fights ago with a good undercard.

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
As an amateur boxing city, it is only second to London in this country.
It's not a pro boxing city - nor is Newcastle or Birmingham.

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Vast majority at London shows aren't from London. Leeds have Josh, who is a freak. Belfast, definitely. Dublin? Again, Dunne was big. Manchester has a lot going on, a fighting city I'd say.mullenman wrote:The fighting city of Liverpool. . Ha ha ha

Strange post a week since we couldn't fill the MEN for a heavyweight title fight.
Not sure what the point of this thread is.

It's not all about big shows. And are the Fury's even from Manchester?Covfefe wrote:Strange post a week since we couldn't fill the MEN for a heavyweight title fight.

And where Fury is from is irellevent though wasn't he born and raised in Stockport? Technically not Manchester proper, but it is Greater Manchester.
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
According to Peter, Hughie and Tyson were "born and bred" there and they didn't come out to support them.mickey1975 wrote:It's not all about big shows. And are the Fury's even from Manchester?Covfefe wrote:Strange post a week since we couldn't fill the MEN for a heavyweight title fight.

I remember a few years ago when they tried to match on to the football fans, and Adam Smith going on about Tysons "beloved Manchester United" shite
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
I once met a transvestite from Greater Manchester.Covfefe wrote:Missing the point of my post there.mickey1975 wrote:It's not all about big shows. And are the Fury's even from Manchester?Covfefe wrote:Strange post a week since we couldn't fill the MEN for a heavyweight title fight.

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
So to be a fighting city you have to sell the place out? Wtf has selling the place out got to do with being a fighting city anyway? Liverpool is a deprives area and the cost of the tickets are abit pricey for a guy who has a family. You need to rename your post to exactly what you mean matemullenman wrote:The fighting city of Liverpool. . Ha ha ha

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
There was a show 2 weeks before last night to be fair. It's not a cheap night out so for most people it's a choice between one or the other. Probably would have been an extra few thousand in if they weren't in competition with each other.
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Leeds, do me a favour. Warrington as a individual has built a following of sorts, but Leeds has not much boxing history.mullenman wrote:The fighting city of Liverpool. . Ha ha ha

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
I thought it was Birmingham, it is that just in the crowd?
Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Heard from a reliable source that half the crowd were oap’s from liverpools old folks homes who are friends and associates of the nans of the liverpool fighters.
Apparently eddie hearn was telling them all it was a “huge night for liverpool boxing” and that they’d be letting their city AND their country down if they didn’t buy a ticket and turn up.
That eddie hearn aye?

London is an obvious one
Liverpool has to be on the shortlist
I'd say Cardiff is in there - has many shows
Sheffield has to be in here too , sheer volume of shows and boxers from there.
Belfast appears to be one now but I can't recall it being one before

Paul Hodkinson had a few fights in Belfast as well.

Good memory mate. And I didn't even mention Dave Boy McCauley either.banjo wrote:Paul Hodkinson had a few fights in Belfast as well.

Re: Liverpool..fighting city?
Carl Johannesson, Henry Wharton was based there, Tom Collins, Crawford Ashley and an incredible crop of amateurs coming through. "Warrington has a following of sorts"! Yes, he does! Bateson will gather one, too. And if Hope Price continues as he should, he will be a champion. Burmantofts is one of the best amatuer gyms in Britain and they're all home made.
