Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) has been relentless since the news broke a few days ago that Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs) tested positive for a banned substance. The World Boxing Council is currently reviewing the incident to figure out what will happen next.
The two boxers are scheduled to fight on November 4th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and while a search for a replacement for Ortiz is underway, there still hasn't been an official ruling as to whether Ortiz will be allowed to fight or not.
Ortiz tested positive for two substances that are found in his prescribed medication for high blood pressure. But there are some who claim, including Wilder and members of his team, that the substances in question are used as masking agents for performance enhancing drugs [PEDs].
The 38-year-old Cuban insists that he is a clean fighter and is willing to wager his entire purse that he can pass a hair test for PEDs. Hair tests can typically catch illegal substances for periods up to 90 days, which is longer than blood and urine tests.
"We want Duck Duck Wilder and his corny puppet promoter (Lou DiBella) to put their money where their mouth is or stop slandering my name because they are scared to lose that WBC belt," Ortiz told BS.com.
"Look, it's easy as 1, 2, 3 - let's bet our purse money for the November 4th bout. Put it on the line. Let's both go to do a VADA testing for hair samples which the world knows that there is no way to cheat. If I come out with any PEDs you keep my purse and if I don't then I keep yours. Let's see if you are just a scared little big mouth or if you believe I'm really taking something. Your bluff is called so put up or shut the f*** up."
Ortiz's manager Jay Jiménez said that it is ironic that Wilder is the one who keeps exploding on social media and in interviews when Ortiz is the one he says is taking banned substances. "Roid Rage" can be a side effect of steroid use.
"It's funny because the only heavyweight who's always raging and mad all the time is Wilder. It makes you think," said Jiménez.

This is merely a deflection strategy to divert attention away from Luis Ortiz's blatantly obvious guilt.
The Cuban has tested positive for banned substances on two separate occasions.
It's that simple.

Really, how many people have even heard of doing this, let alone know about it's strengths and limitations. I can't even find any information about using it to detect PEDs online, it's mostly about detecting recreational drugs.Let's both go to do a VADA testing for hair samples which the world knows that there is no way to cheat
Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
Most of what Luis says about hair follicle tests is accurate. But for a hair follicle test to be accurate for the past 90 days, your current hair must be at least 1.5 inches long, and I've never seen Ortiz sporting hair that is longer than 0.1 inches long.

blood, dead skin, sweat, pubic hair, sperm, poo, saliva and piss , all fresh for the test!
Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!

..not that much of hair, unless he means armpits or private parts
Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
If he is clean, they fight and he gets both pursesIf I come out with any PEDs you keep my purse and if I don't then I keep yours.
If he's dirty, the fight doesn't happen

Sounds like easy money in that case! Oh wait, no, Wilder is a lier, just like he has always been, that makes much more sense.Enlightened-One wrote:This is merely a deflection strategy to divert attention away from Luis Ortiz's blatantly obvious guilt.

It doesn't have to be on his head, you may be the one looking for other places.Lackeos wrote:Most of what Luis says about hair follicle tests is accurate. there's enough hair there.. A hair doesn't have to long or fat to be tested.. I don't believe Ortiz took any PEDs.greg wrote:

Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
Ortiz should go ahead and have his hair tested. If he is confident enough, then just do it and send it to 2-3 labs and clear his name. It sucks how it went down for Povitkin. No one wants a repeat of that.
We want this fight!

I don't want this fight anymore. Ortiz disqualified himself.
Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
Why because he's taking medicine to control his blood pressure from the doctor? My grandfather died of a heart attack because of high blood pressure. So did my nan who was only 58 when she passed. My father and his brother both have to take blood pressure tablets. In the future I may have to as it runs in the family.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I don't want this fight anymore. If you have high blood pressure you have to take medicine or you risk the possibility of an early death like my grandfather who was in his early 60's and my nan who was in her late 50's.

ESPN are reporting that when Luis Ortiz completed the WBC\VADA paperwork he stated that he was not taking any medication whatsoever and nor did his team file for an exemption.Exoddus wrote:Why because he's taking medicine to control his blood pressure from the doctor? This is the second time Luis Ortiz has tested positive for presence of banned substances in his system.

Can anyone explain to me, the competitive advantage gained by using this banned substance?
Apart from featuring in blood pressure medicine, what does it do for you that makes you a better, stronger, more athletic fighting machine?
I'm just trying to get my head around why he'd be taking this stuff and jeopardise a huge fight, in which he knew there was a very good likelihood of being caught?

Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
I'm not sure I would box if I had high blood pressure but we all need cash I guess.
From what I've read it seems that symptoms can be:
Severe headache
Fatigue or confusion
Vision problems
Chest pain
Difficulty breathing
Irregular heartbeat
Blood in the urine
Pounding in your chest, neck or ears
Understandably Ortiz would take his medication if he had any of the above. Without it these are worst things a boxer could go through and obviously very dangerous.
If he does have blood pressure issues then most are being too harsh based on him, all because he has previous with PEDs.
All that said I still think something's not right even with the standard digging that Wilder does when serious fighters turn up.
It doesn't help that Ortiz is not very likeable either, at least to me he's not.

If he needs that medication, he needs it every day. It would show up on every test. The benefit, Davie, is it's a masking agent for real peds.
Re: Luis Ortiz Dares Wilder: Let's Bet Our Purses on My Hair Sample!
I'm curious to see what if any drugs are on the list that Ortiz had to disclose before the testing. If he didn't disclose the medication, his goose is cooked, so to speak. Even if they are prescribed and he didn't disclose them, he is still screwed. If guilty, him and Pedvetkin should fight, then go away.
