Why are people obsessed with the need to have one definitive reason?
You don't make a decision that big based on one reason.
It will be a combination of lack of motivation to go through another training camp, advice from loved ones and possibly a realisation that his standard is declining while most of his peers are improving

Agreed but that is what I was getting at with the "Old Father Time" reference. All these considerations are manifestations of the ageing process ... trust me :verysad:

I suspect wlad would probably have quit if he'd pulled out the win, which he was very close to doing.

Wlad is 41. That is an old age for a boxer. Strength remains but the reflexes are slower.

He did bloody well against joshua considering. Too a whale of a shot ang got up and flatten the much younger man. In a way his career defining fight, even though he lost.

Being born about 40 years ago retired Klitschko.

I've been critical of Wlad's holding and lack of excitement but there have been few, if any, HWs better @ 40.

He should have retired after Fury danced around him for 12 rounds

Can't agree with you Walnuts. Fury's was a fine achievement but the fight stunk the place out, and was no way for Wlad to bow out.

The Joshua fight allowed him to go out on his shield, a true warrior having come so close to knocking out a very worthy champion in waiting, Wlad did very well out of it financially without compromising his legacy, in fact he won more respect and admiration in defeat, adding admirers that previously regarded him as an effective but boring cyborg.

Apart from a few soon-forget whacks around the head, what's not for him love about that?
