Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
this century seen lots of weak HW champs, both with and without any succesfull defence
Deontay Wilder with 5 successful defences is still one of the worst champs in 21th century

Re: Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
Didn't Maskaev lose his title in his 1st defense against Sam Peter?
Re: Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
At any rate. Of those on the poll I'd say it's either Maskaev or Joseph Parker.

Hmm...alright then. Didn't even remember that.dagilechia wrote:he defended first vs Okello Petergilgamesh wrote:Didn't Maskaev lose his title in his 1st defense against Sam Peter?
My answer remains the same.
Hard to say who I'd pick between Parker and Maskaev as THE worst, but it's one of those two.

He was dog sh*t to watch, but he could've beaten a few of the guys here in sloppy as hell fashiondagilechia wrote:I voted for Ruiz too, his style was terribleValMar wrote:Ruiz.....
Worst to watch though definitely.
Re: Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
johnny woudlve hugged and mauled a guy like parker to a wide decision. ruiz deffo ugliest style but not the worst fighter. wins over holfield who still had something, wide over rahman, stoppage of tough oquendo. frustrated and hurt then unbeaten kirk johnson who i think was the favorite. he made his ugliness effective.
maskaev was probably post prime when he got the title. his actual champion version was lesser. i think he had rahmans number and was a bit lucky to get to face him again. got wiped out by peter.

1-1-1 in his fights with Holyfield, and it's important to note that after the 3rd Holyfield-Ruiz fight which ended in a draw, Holyfield immediately went on to fight Rahman in his next fight...and beat him.jamamb wrote:johnny woudlve hugged and mauled a guy like parker to a wide decision. ruiz deffo ugliest style but not the worst fighter. wins over holfield who still had something, wide over rahman, stoppage of tough oquendo. frustrated and hurt then unbeaten kirk johnson who i think was the favorite. he made his ugliness effective.

i dont think that Wilder is the worst of them, but i can see everyone from that list beat him + everyone would be a better opponent than anyone Wilder has faced so far

I can not forget Ruiz destroyed by Tua, literally destroyed............gilgamesh wrote:1-1-1 in his fights with Holyfield, and it's important to note that after the 3rd Holyfield-Ruiz fight which ended in a draw, Holyfield immediately went on to fight Rahman in his next fight...and beat him.jamamb wrote:johnny woudlve hugged and mauled a guy like parker to a wide decision. ruiz deffo ugliest style but not the worst fighter. wins over holfield who still had something, wide over rahman, stoppage of tough oquendo. frustrated and hurt then unbeaten kirk johnson who i think was the favorite. he made his ugliness effective.

Worst heavyweight champ with no title defenses: Tyson Fury

And maskaev got ktfo by corey sanders. The obese, sucky American one. not the quick handed hard punching south African one.ValMar wrote:I can not forget Ruiz destroyed by Tua, literally destroyed............gilgamesh wrote:1-1-1 in his fights with Holyfield, and it's important to note that after the 3rd Holyfield-Ruiz fight which ended in a draw, Holyfield immediately went on to fight Rahman in his next fight...and beat him.jamamb wrote:johnny woudlve hugged and mauled a guy like parker to a wide decision. ruiz deffo ugliest style but not the worst fighter. wins over holfield who still had something, wide over rahman, stoppage of tough oquendo. frustrated and hurt then unbeaten kirk johnson who i think was the favorite. he made his ugliness effective.

gtfo. Beat wlad, Cunningham, hammer, chisora. Didn’t lose on any judges card. even if he is a fat cokehead, no way hes worse than Charles martin.RScarf1 wrote:Worst heavyweight champ with no title defenses: Tyson Fury

I voted Parker. He’s so average.
Wilder may look bad, but with his huge right hand, he at least has something special in his locker
Valuev is a terrible boxer per se, but when you’re 7ft 1 and 300lb whatever, you have some serious advantage for an opponent to overcome. He’s shite, but being that big asks questions.
Ruiz is boring and very basic. But much more savvy than Parker. He got caught cold by tua but that can happen to the best if you don’t start right. He beat Holyfield albeit a past it Holyfield, and beat Rahman.
Haye is a small heavyweight but be fair the hayemaker has something about him. Too small to compete in today’s heavies probably, but he had speed and some skills compared to parker
Chaguev weren’t that bad at his best imo
Can’t remember the rest. But Parker has to be up there

haye was wayyyy better than parker

Yes Haye pre lay off would knock him outjamamb wrote:haye was wayyyy better than parker

haye would've beaten that big stiff idiot vitali if they'd fought back in 2012 as was rumored at the time. the blast out of chisora is very underrated. chis fought loads of contenders and champs and no one has brutalized him like haye did. haye again shows how dangerous cruisers can be against hws.
would've probably ko'd a guy like maskaev in one or two, beaten up chag, already beat valuev, etc. probably would've torn pedvetkin a new one too, like huck did.

You really believe Haye beating Vitali? have you seen Haye vs Valuev?jamamb wrote:haye would've beaten that big stiff idiot vitali if they'd fought back in 2012 as was rumored at the time. the blast out of chisora is very underrated. chis fought loads of contenders and champs and no one has brutalized him like haye did. haye again shows how dangerous cruisers can be against hws.

btw Povetkin vs Haye was a fight i very expected to see at the time, could be a nice clash of styles
Re: Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
vitali was a trudging, injured, old mess by the time the fight was talked about. the guy that arguably lost 5 rounds to chisora (destroyed by haye). the guy being hit easily by solis. haye beats that guy. young vitali another story.

Re: Worst HW champ with at least 1 successful defence in 21th century
vs Chisora it was one-handed Vit, and still i think he did just enough to win, could win more comfortably
I see Haye being scared to throw a punch same as vs Valuev or Wlad

old vit didnt have size of valuev or ktfo power or speed of wlad. the in and out counters would've been there all day for haye.

Valuev for me. Imho Ruiz beat him twice, as did Holyfield. He was just a huge guy with a good jab. Otherwise he didn't have much going for him. He was scary looking, but that's about it. I did love his fight with Monte Barrett though.
