Charlo vs Lubin on 10/14/17 - Nothing?

Post by caldo2025 »

I'm very surprised at the lack of excitement or discussions surrounding the upcoming tilt between Jermell Charlo and Erickson Lubin. Are we getting spoiled in 2017 now as these career defining fights are becoming old hat or ar people more interested in drug tests and BS? Who knows?

But i'm VERY excited about this fight and think that it could be the best fight of the year if both guys bring their best into the ring. We're talking about high boxing IQ/speed/power combination on display unlike anything we've seen all year and should only be matched or exceeded by Loma/Rigo. A fight like this would have been out of the question prior to 2017...damn what a year. I love it.

I'm hearing that Spence Jr. vs. Lamont Peterson is all but signed for December as well. Boxing is going out with a bang. Forget about the drug tests and the paper champions in the bogus heavyweight division. There's too much excitement to complain about anything this year in Boxing.

Lubin is on my watch list, but I think this is too massive of a step-up for him. I expect this not to be competitive enough. Also, there have most certainly be various older threads on the subject.

I can't find betting odds on Charlo vs Lubin or Hurd vs Trout. What is going on?

I like that contest. The whole card on October 14th is fairly solid.

Charlo vs Lubin and Trout vs Hurd are competitive bouts I'd say.

Lubin is going to go through Charlo pretty easily.

I know Charlo has been sparring extensively with Spence in the run up to prepare for Lubin. Cant get much better prep than that. Will it matter? Who knows.

is lubin that similar to spence. spence is come forward all offensive body digger. lubin seems like a measured boxer-puncher.

I don't understand why people are so high on Lubin? He went the distance with some mexican bums and his resume is full of bums, I mean very low opposition! It's not like this guy whooped a proven 154'ber like Vanes Martirosyan or Trout and now he's a big threat.

I didn't mean they were carbon copies of one another; just that for a similar weight class, Spence is probably the most talented southpaw you can spar with in preparation. Also, I'd say that Spence can box in a measured fashion.

spence is a walk forward banger. ppl want to make him out like some beast who does everything but hes rather basic. just that hes great at what he does do. unreal strength and dedication to the body. hopefully charlos ribs arent too sore.

IMO Charlo lost to Martyrosian. I am cheering for Lubin, but as someone said, it is a huge step up for him :box: :box: :box:

You think so? I don't feel that will happen. These freaking Charlo's are taking over boxing and i'm not too happy about it. I guess they are better than the idiot Dirrell brothers taking over but I'm still always rooting against all them. I hope that you're right man but the Charlo's seem to have taken another step up in skills and power.

I've thought jermall was significantly better since the first time I saw them. Surprised me because jermell was more hyped. We'll see, really good card.

This is Lubin's chance to show what he can do.
Personally I think he is up against it. If he wins this, he goes up exponentially in my book. Top 5 at the weight if it's convincing.
He does have his fans, but if anything, the hype is more around Charlo, possibly because of some trickle down from the slightly more talented brother.

Edit: listen to me, will ya? I still get the Charlos mixed up and am too reluctant to individually name them

Seven weeks ago I was the first poster on this forum to announce the Jermell Charlo vs. Erickson Lubin fight… and have also mentioned it again twice since.

Erickson Lubin is a talented pro that has only just turned 22 years of age four days ago and he seems to be (in general) showing signs of improvement during every bout he participates in. He’s rated 9th by ESPN and 8th by The RING.

The champion, Jermell Charlo, is older and more experienced, but is rated third by 3rd by ESPN and 2nd by The RING.

This has to be ranked as one of the better bouts that have taken place during 2017, since this is a fight between two top-ten unbeaten ranked fighters that are both either approaching or in their prime.

You know what? I’m also a little surprised about how little this fight has been discussed… and it’s supposed to be a forum frequented by many self-proclaimed boxing aficionados.

Definitely. I'm really looking forward to that one. Any idea about Lara's guy? Gausha? I couldn't recognize one person that Gausha defeated with that undefeated record so I'm assuming he's got a padded record. I'd love to see Lara get tested though. That guys is pretty special when pushed.

We are seeing more and more of these cards that focus on a specific weight class and I love it. I think that it's great for the sport and is the easiest way to build interest in some upcoming fights.

For once, I agree with you. This fight should have been marketed better and why the heck is it not THE main event of the card? I'm sure that Lara had something to do with it and probably wouldn't have signed on if not headlining the show.

Both Charlos have all of a sudden turned into power punching knockout artists in the last year or so. I find that rather interesting and I'd like see what kind of testing has been done on these cats. I'm like Wilder now...I'm assuming everyone's on PEDs now...even Jim Lampley.

I think it's the same situation when his brother, Jermall fought J.Rock. Everybody was hyping Rock like he was the new 154 lbs version of Tyson and he'll destroy Jermall.

Sorry for that. It might have been "drowned out" by all the Mayweather-McGregor or Canelo-GGG threads.

Very interesting boxing match. Massive step up for Lubin, imo. If it gets to the deep end of the fight how will he swim? We know Charlo has resided in the deep end for a chunk of his career.

I like both of these kids. I look forward to seeing them both again no matter the outcome of this fight.
