According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization was advised that Berchelt vs. Salido was being negotiated for a date in December.
Salido was initially going to return on November 25, as part of the HBO televised undercard to Sergey Kovalev's return at the Theatre in New York's Madison Square Garden. Those plans were changed, with an HBO date in December being discussed.
Berchelt (32-1, 28 KOs) had a breakout year in 2017. He captured the world title in January with a stoppage victory over Francisco Vargas, and then followed things up with a dominating decision win over Takashi Miura in a mandatory defense.
He is now looking at the idea of a third fight on a date in December.
Salido, 36, is 44-13-4 and 31 KOs. He was featherweight and super featherweight world champion and has been involved in several Fight of The Year contenders, including the 2016 FOTY winner when he fought a twelve round war with Francisco Vargas for the 130-pound green and gold belt.

Sulaiman reveals that his organization also ordered a final WBC eliminator between Vargas and former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez.
Vargas (23-1-2, 17 KOs), who suffered several bad cuts in the contest, has been out of the ring since getting stopped by Berchelt in January. He is likely not going to fight again until 2018, but recently there has been talk of taking a fight before the end of the year.
One of the biggest one-punch hitters in the game, Gonzalez (64-10, 54 KOs) has picked up six victories, including five by knockout, since he dropped an upset decision to Jonathan Oquendo in 2015.

Salido hasn't been stopped since his 14th pro fight back in 2000.
It was 5 of his first 6 losses he lost via stoppage. He has lost 7 times since, all via decision..
I'm not sure Berchelt will win via stoppage, but i'm backing him to retain his title.

I think he might stop him late.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Salido hasn't been stopped since his 14th pro fight back in 2000.

He was cautious against Miura though but that was to avoid the lea, straight left hand from Miura.

These match-ups would be very nice. Berchelt is already so accomplished for a young fighter, and Salido would be another really major opponent so soon. Although I wouldn't want to see Berchelt rush into a fight with Lomachenko while he's still so young, it's hard to say that he'd be unworthy of taking a crack at him after beating Salido (and Vargas and Miura).

It still amazes me that I saw Orlando Salido get beat rather easily by a relatively unknown fighter on the deep undercard in my small rural KY town in 2001 and here he is 16 years later still involved in big fights.
