I don't remember that. Sounds as bad as Tyson's corner filling condoms with tap water to work on his swelling against Douglas.

The old Vitali was winning before he got stopped argument, eh?

He got stopped though: legitimately stopped. Lewis fucked him up and he couldn't continue. They put a cotton bud on the cut and it disappeared inside.

Back when I joined Boxrec in 2009 they were stil having THE SAME fornicating DEBATE and the answer is always the same:

Lennox was the better man that night.

Look at his face, Larry.

He got torn up by his own corner team. Fucks sake , always makes me cringe thinking about that mad man with the towel OUCH

Nobody ever mentions it! Was horrendous.
I know , I don’t know what the fornicate he was thinking , maybe nerves ? But he nearly ripped his eyelid clean off...

I remember watching it at the time thinking it looked better than an endswell! As in, less sore. My dad had an endswell he was very proud of and used it with vigour on my black eyes. :D

Are you saying he planned to give him a cut. Punch doesn't mean a cut. Its a pure luck if someone gets cut. The momentum started to shift late, only after Vitalis cut got so swollen that his vision became obscured.

Let me also remind you that after the fight Lewis promised him a rematch. And what he did? He retired.

Well someone starts talking deluded shit and it always snowballs. It will be like this for another 100 years. Why? Because Lewis chickened out from the rematch.

I remember Vitali was adamant he was going to defend against David Haye. Then he saw Haye send Derek Chisora's head flying into the 10th row and gave up that idea pretty sharpish. Suddenly retirement seemed more appealing!

What do people see in the gasping, blood drenched Vitali staggering dazedly to his corner with half his face hanging off at the end of six that makes them think he was about to turn it all around and knock Lewis out?

Wladimir was a dam good boxer

Vitali was a dam good fighter.

There is a hell of a difference between the 2. Vitali would have stood a chance of 'having it' with most heavyweights in history because of his size and because he is/was 'nails'. Im convinced if it was not for the cuts then vitali would have beat lewis that night (and im a lennox fan). lennox was gassed.

I remember Vitali and Wlad having almost a punch fight about who would fight Haye. I remember Haye running from both of them for years before Wlad managed to get him in the ring. You remember wrongly.

No I don't. In 2012 Vitali was talking up a David Haye fight. He wanted to do what Wladimir couldn't and stop Haye. Then he saw Haye annihilate Chisora, who had just given Vitali a 12 round ordeal ("The hardest fight of my career" - Vitali) and he changed his mind and boxed... Manuel Charr! And then retired.

I know Haye had pulled out of June 2009 Klit fight with a back injury, but the double standards of Vitali always amused me. Disgusted that Lewis, an old man, retired rather than fight him. Saw Haye decap Del boy, retired.

If Lewis at 34 was an old man then Vitali at 41 was ancient. Haye ducked him for years in his prime and you are judging Viatli from his last fight choice. Importantly rematch was needed after inconclusive ending. Which, I repeat, Lewis promised. Speaking of double standards.

You've got this whole Lewis and Vitali one all wrong I'm afraid. Vitali was winning, Lewis was in a bit of trouble but by the time the fight was stopped Lewis had turned it around. A peak Lewis is far superior to a peak Vitali.

That is what I said so how did I get it wrong. With the difference that I believe the cut was the reason Lewis was turning the tide. Peak Lewis vs peak Vitali is a fantasy and I dont care about fantasy matchups.

your right tarkus, no need to speculate prime vs prime, because obvious that one fighter massively better than the other. its damning on vitali that even as a youing man he got torn to pieces by possibly the worst version of lennox (except for maybe very early pro career LL). i think ray mercer fought a comparitively sloppy (though fresher) version of lennox and ray arguably deserved a win. contrast that with vitalis face falling off. vitali wasnt even as good as mercer.

peak lennox better in every area than peak vitali other than maybe chin and stamina. power for lennox. speed for lennox. jab for lennox. punch variety for lennox. footwork for lennox. style versatility and inside fighting for lennox. defense for lennox. think of what fat heart not in it anymore lennox did to vitali. know imagine the nasty things prime lennox wouldve done to him. vitali wouldnt have gotten chance to make his very limited advantages count.

vitali one of most overrated hws in years. his brother was better and way more accomplished. vitali shouldnt be considered in the same league as wlad let alone lennox.

Lewis at 38 had 14 years of pro boxing with scalps such as Gary Mason, Razor Ruddock, Tony Tucker, Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer, Andrew Golota, Evander Holyfield twice, David Tua, Hasim Rahman, Mike Tyson - and Vitali Klitschko, among many others. He had nothing left to prove.

Vitali at 41 had 12 years pro boxing with Byrd and Lewis as his best opponents and his great scalps being... His good scalps being..... Er, a 39 year old 90s fringe contender Corrie Sanders? He needed David Haye on his record, bad. He saw Haye plug Del boy and decided to leave town, sharpish.

His need to consider Joshua speaks volumes. What wins does anyone remember him for?

Best comment on here is the 'Vitali gasping for breath staggering to his corner with his face hanging off after six rounds' line.

He lost that fight and was going on to lose that fight against an old Lennox. He'd have lost a rematch as well. You have to retire sometime.
