Reg was great but slightly ITV down market (unnecessary clichés and puns etc)

there were some other funny ones in the 80's. Anyone remember when Jim Rosenthal had to fill in on the Andries v Hearns fight ?

That's what I was trying to say funso , nothing against him , but said some funny things at times not unlike big Ron.

I too can remember sportsnight on a Wednesday night , watching on a black and white loop Ariel portable TV .

Sometimes you had to sit through the dogs first before the boxing came on.

Harry C was a legend , the youth of today probably wouldn't like his calm demeanor though .

As an aside you still had a version of Ron in the olden days , I don't know how many times I heard Reg Gutteridge spill the "three falls and a submission" line . Even worse was Gary Newbon who regularly got boxers mixed up !

Yes that was bad. He was talking without thinking. Gutteridge and Watt were very good but Newbon often got people’s blood up especially with his aggressive and tactless questioning.

Not just the commentator either. I'm a Joshua and Fury fan. Big Daddy in his pomp would make mincemeat out of the pair! He was a seriously top heavyweight on his night.

I also remmeber him saying McClellan was faking it after he collapsed (not in these words but he was insinuating it). Should never of been allowed near a boxing ring after that comment

I made it 1 minute into the Groves vs Cox fight on youtube and couldn't go on. McIntosh is simply unbearable. Rather than concentrating on the fight, I find myself just listening to his waffling and getting increasingly irritated.

Switched to a Russian call. Less intrusive speaker and so much more composed, whatever he's saying.
