Josh Taylor Vs. Miguel Vazquez - 11th November

Post by chad »

Vazquez has apparently confirmed he is coming over to the UK to face Taylor in November. BoxRec has the fight listed in their schedule.

Vazquez is certainly not the fighter he was when he was being lined up to face Ricky Burns about 4 years back. I'm surprised to learn he's only 30. It's a good fight for Taylor in only his 11th pro outing. Fancy him to stop Vazquez.

Wow that's a hell of a step up. Vazquez is a tall and awkward guy. Even as his career winds down he could be a nightmare for an up and comer. Good to see Taylor taking another risk.

Hopefully this is a Spike and/or Channel 5 showing. :TU:

Good fight on paper.

I seriously question the level of ambition he will bring over though.

He's on a run of 4 wins albeit against club type fighters so maybe he's looking to get back in to contention? Suppose we won't know til the night. Surprising defeat to Mendez which I haven't seen so I don't know how it went down but I thought he was stiffed against Bey when he lost his title.

A stoppage for Taylor would be a big statement.

hmmm. its an interesting bit of matchmaking, for me. Vazquez obviously represents a step up in quality, and also can give Taylor important experience in dealing with mover-'boxer' types.

the downside I'd say pretty clearly is that Taylor is not likely to look good, here, and the fight itself likely to be a bit of a stinker (is Vazquez in any other type of fight)

I'd call it quite farsighted matchmaking in terms of Taylor's boxing development, levels and styles, but much less so in terms of the development of Taylor as a commodity, if you will.

Jason Easton signed by Cyclone, on the undercard defending his belt. Entertaining fighter, another one at light welter.

Plus Taylor's silver belt is on the line, which is the gateway to another title shot if Vazquez wants another go. He held a belt for 5 or so years, I also can't believe he is only 30!!

Added to this card is Jason Easton vs Josef Zahradnik, for some IBO pisspot belt. I liked Easton when I've seen him in his last two fights, he seems to have decent power, and is a capable boxer, but his lack of a guard can be problematic, might end up going the same way as Robbie Davies Jnr.
Zahradnik is the champion of Czech Republic so, make of that' what you will.

If Taylor wins this, would his resume be better than Davis's?
I would think so, especially if Vasquez brings it, and I think he will...

Vazquez has the style and experience to make Taylor work hard for twelve rounds. Which, at this stage of his career, is exactly what he needs.

I like what I see with Taylor, he is being moved along at a good pace by Cyclone too.

vazquez makes things awful though. can see jt winning every round but ppl poo pooing because it was boring. granted with vasquez moving up could also be good chance of bigger jt being first to stop him. then roll on hype.

jt the best scot since gary cornish.

High praise indeed, perhaps one day he might do enough to surpass that great milestone.....

Six world titles and three masters?
As good as Taylor is, I doubt he could manage that.
