RIP Terry Downes

Post by scorpio83 »

Former World Middleweight Champion Terry Downes passed away at 81. He fought in a trilogy fight with Paul Pender and trading titles in the second and third. Downes fought former World Middleweight Champions Sugar Ray Robinson, Joey Giardello and former two division champion Dick Tiger and former World Light Heavyweight Champion Willie Pastrano. A couple of weeks ago, Downes temporarily held the longest living former middleweight champion after the passing of the legendary "Raging Bull" Jake LaMotta.

RIP "Paddington Express" Terry Downes and thanks for the memories in the ring. :verysad: :salut:

What a wonderful life he had. Always remember him , aside from his fantastic boxing achievements, as the hunchback in the Roman Polanski film Dance of the Vampires. One of my favourite films.

What I heard from Ring Magazine website that Downes fought Hall of Famer and future two division boxing champion Dick Tiger in his third fight and Downes lost by a TKO. After the fight, Downes wanted to beat up a match maker for setting the match between him and Tiger in the first place as Downes knew it was the match maker's bone headed decision. Downes had an early set back and was a good world middleweight champion.

Yes and that string to his bow as well.
Terry was a notable achiever and I am going to see if I can find the Pender fights on-line.
