Frænk Wærren: Amir Khan should restart career vs. Bradley Skeete

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

From Wærren

Khan, 30, has not fought since he was knocked out by Saul Alvarez in May 2016 and, despite being a top fighter, his value is dwindling.

The Bolton boxer was a hit in America but, after a devastating defeat and almost 18 months out of the ring, those Stateside see him as a fighter on the slide.

American TV companies are not going to put up big money for him and promoters over there will only see him as an opponent for their star men.

Currently Khan is in no man’s land as he has not fought in the UK since his 2013 win over Julio Diaz and he has only been in a British ring twice since 2009.

But he needs to come home and rebuild his career and what better way to start by taking on Londoner Skeete.

I met Khan at the Boxing Writers’ Club dinner at the Savoy on Monday night and mentioned a clash with the British welterweight champion so hopefully we will hear back soon.

Skeete is ranked No.3 in the WBO rankings so if – and it is a big if – Khan wins he would be back in world title contention.

But it is also a great fight for Skeete who could announce himself on the world scene by delivering another blow to Khan’s career.

I think Khan is too good for Skeete.. So he should take it.. A good British boxer is who Khan should fight, Skeete is beatable.. It would be a good name to get back in the UK.. Khan admitted he doesn't like fighting in the UK, hence having fought here twice since 2009.

not sure W@rren will sacrifice his best WW to help build Khan up for an Eddie Hearn PPV...

Of all the fights this pudendum could take, Skeete ain't top of the list. Brook, Garcia, Saunders all bigger fights.

He might if it's the biggest fight he could get.

agreed. If he gets paid over the odds.
I reckon they would probably rather put Corcoran in with Khan coming off a loss to Horn over putting Skeete in...

No way Khan fights Skeete- he still thinks he’s a superstar

I think Khan would box rings around Skeete even after a long lay off but I quite like Skeete and wouldn't mind seeing this bout. Good pay day for Skeete and I'm sure he'd fancy it himself.

He is actually a good choice of opponent for khan if he is returning to the UK.

Khan isn't as popular as he makes out and hasn't fought here for 4.5 years.

It would help to have his comeback against a British opponent rather than some import we have never heard of.

It would be a good fight for Khan, Skeete is on some good form but one thing I feel will be is undoing as he steps up is his power - and we all know about Khan and someone with an ounce of power.

Likewise, Skeete would be confident also, in good form - and the manner of the KO Khan received vs Canelo it wouldn't be at all surprising that it could have seriously comprimised his punch resistance even further.

Amir would say Skeete needs to win a world title (like he said about Kell) to even get close to having a fight with him, then if he does win a world title, he would still ask for 70% of the purse as would be the A side...

wonder if Warren and khan are working on some sort of link up.

Khan seems to be retweeting allegedly and vice versa. Also seen he's training with Jamie Moore at the moment - similar to Frampton who just signed with Warren.

Be good to actually see Khan fighting regular in the uk.

Amir was more than hinting that his next fight will be in the UK last week on ITV Box Office, and seemed to give big vibes that he is (or soon will be a free agent, TV wise) - he was saying "maybe I could fight on ITV again in the future".

Would be the perfect fit really if he could push his ego to one side. Like it or not - Joshua aside- he's the most mainstream fighter in the uk still.

Why does Wrank Farren want Skeete to have a defeat to Khan on his record?

mid-December return. Dec 9th at the M.E.N maybe?
Flanagan vs. Beltran
Khan vs. Dale Evans or Shane Singleton? as co-main.

Skeete vs. Mohamed Mimoune for the EBU on December 16th from the Copper Box as a build in to the Saunders Lemieux fight?

then onto Khan/Skeete in February?

Winner fights Horn/Pacquiao winner in the summer?
