Jermell Charlo vs Erickson Lubin

Post by handsofstone »

Charlo defends his WBC Super Welterweight title on Sky this weekend against the undefeated prospect Lubin , Ive seen a Lubin a few times now and he's always impressed, always thought there was a chance he would become world champ but I didn't think he'd get his chance against someone as good as Charlo, thought he'd maybe get one against a lesser champ to build himself up

Jermell always been the lesser of the twins but he's coming off 2 sickening KOs against Jackson and last time against Hatley, both guys were KTFO so Jermell clearly developing a bit of a dig and starting to sit down a lot more on his punches

There's a lot of boxing on this weekend but this is the fight of the weekend for me, I'm struggling to pick a winner, Charlo is the champ and has the better resume and Lubin hasn't got any real notable scalps on his slate yet but I still see this as a 50/50

I reckon Lubin will become a world champ one day but think Jermell will edge this one, I remember Jermell being outboxed by Jackson when he won the title before knocking him out so Lubin should have his moments

I can see me changing my mind on this one before the fight

Like I posted on CS, if it goes to the deep end, Jermell has spent a good part of his career there. It is largely uncharted open water for Lubin.

This is a great bill. I really like Hurd. Not sure how far he'll go but he's exciting to watch.

Charlo v Lubin should be a cracker too. I get home from work around 11.15pm so not sure which fights I'll get to see live.

Show starts at 12.30 on Sky when I checked earlier in the week. It runs until 6am so they must be showing nearly all the bill.

He lives in the states, starts at 10 his time. He should catch at least most of lubin and all of Lara.

Really grown to like th Charlos in the last year. I think this is too soon for Lubin.

I've heard about him for a year but he hasn't fought anyone remotely decent. He really could have done with facing someone like Martirosyan before this. A lack experience gained in a fight like that may be his downfall.

Though If Lubin wins and wins well I will be in the hype train in a big way.

Charlo hasn't exactly faced monsters. His brother is significantly better.

It's funny how when you get two brothers who are both at decent level one is always more of an animal than the other.

Vitali over Wlad, Anthony over Andre, Jermall over Jermell.

The oddest part was jermell had so much more hype and the first time I saw them I was shocked by how much more impressive jermall was. Wlad would have butchered vitali.

But even Vanes, John Jackson, Hayley and Rosado ( from three years ago ) are significantly better than what lubin has been in with.

I'm still looking forward to this fight though.

Sure, he's faced better, but nobody that lubin wouldn't be a massive favorite against. He has grit, but Jackson was boxing circles around him. Looking forward to it too, I'll be surprised(and nervous$$) if it's close.

He might have outboxed him but butchered? No.

I'm prone to exaggeration, just a better fighter. Though vitalis lack of competition might not tell his whole story.

:D

My point wasn't who was better. My point is one is always more of an animal than the other. In fact you could reasonably argue that all three of the lesser animal boxer brothers would outpoint their brothers (although less so with Charlo but still time)

Yeah, vitali definitely was more willing. If he could punch like wlad he would have been brutal.

Not sure I would go that far re Jermall....but I want to see him in legit fights at middleweight. He needs to be kept active but that's not PBCs speciality

His patience behind a steady jab was what impressed me the most when I started touting him years ago.

Maybe he could but he didn't because he's not as much of an animal, if you know what I mean.

u mean drugs? vitali always seemed like the more spiteful brother to me if there was one. no less 'animal' mentality than wlad had.

wlad just had way more torque on his punches. u can see it. vitali threw limp arm punches. maybe a trait that came from his kickboxing days and never left him. dont think wlad kickboxed or at least i know he didnt do nearly as much of it.

Lets give Sky its due - Tonights double feature is up there with anything Sky has shown in many years. Reminds me a bit of the Toney vs Holyfield night.

Wowzers :o Barely a punch landed beforehand looked cagey but its hard to tell from the replays ive seen but it looked like it was the right forearm that landed, either way Lubin was fooked, great if fortunate win for Charlo

1 day I promise I will be able to tell both brothers apart

Edit- seen another replay, right hand landed, nothing fortunate about it , excellent KO from Charlo

Right as you could tell one of 'em from the other, Jermell dyes his freakin' hair blonde like Jermall

It would've helped if their parents would've named 'em something a little different.

Like at the very least couldn't it have been Jermell and Jermaine? There's only one letter separating 'em
