They'll be penalty clauses put in about doing that legally - also that would be another 2 promoters off the list - and they don't have many left who really want anything to do with them.Tarkus wrote:Way he is talking about fighting Groves and then DeGale makes me think that he aims to beat Groves in the semies and then quit the tourney if he is against Callum Smith. Yes Callum Smith looks the fave but in these tourneys the fave doesn't always win.
Someone gets a loss or feels they've been wronged somehow and they'll be wrangling to get out, though. Thinking Eubank would be difficult if something went wrong.

Good points. Of course they can always fake injury or something but even Seniors madness must have limits.3132DW wrote:They'll be penalty clauses put in about doing that legally - also that would be another 2 promoters off the list - and they don't have many left who really want anything to do with them.Tarkus wrote:Way he is talking about fighting Groves and then DeGale makes me think that he aims to beat Groves in the semies and then quit the tourney if he is against Callum Smith. This could be the difference.Ossyrules wrote:Don't forget the smith bros have tournament experience. Paul was absolutely immense in the contender winning an SD before coming off the show due to a cut. That experience could be vital

I think Jr could win the whole thing.
He's looking like a very tough proposition for anyone. Great speed and stamina means his work-rate alone will be tough to overcome...and so far he's shown no durability issues. If that continues to be the case as he gets in more competitive fights then he will be hard to overcome.

I'm confused so who provides the undercard? Or is it on a domestic promoter to do that?Marlo Stanfield wrote:September/October for the 8 QFs, January/February for the SFs and May finals. I think you are right. The Eubanks are not not daft you know. Groves wont win as many people think. On this occasion im not following the crowd im going with I think. Eubank Jr is not getting any worse hes improving all the time, might not be a puncher but he will out work any super middle imo.Ezzard wrote:I think Jr could win the whole thing.

Re: Super middleweight tournament
Pretty sh1t line up really.
Groves is the only bona fide world class fighter in it. Smith is a decent prospect. But as for the others - Braehmer's years past his best, Eubank's a con artist, Cox has never done anything and I've never heard of anyone else.

Re: Super middleweight tournament
I don't understand the point of this tournament. I read somewhere that it included 8 of the best super middles in the world . It doesn't.
I could see the point of the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO champions were involved. They're not.
The fights already arranged are fairly routine, nothing to get excited about. Basically undercard ten rounders. Would anybody on here pay extra to watch ANY of them ?

I wouldnt call them undercard 10 rounders. There are some good fights already in the quarters of the super middleweights and some corkers in the cruiserweight.dalcumly wrote:I don't understand the point of this tournament. Re: Super middleweight tournament
Durable, fast, volume boxers are hard to beat. I like Groves but he will have to hurt Eubank to beat him. Smith is a giant at the weight but may struggle in a back and forth 12 rounder... Don't know much about the American guy but he will obviously be good.mimmy123 wrote:I think you are right. The Eubanks are not not daft you know. Groves wont win as many people think. Schaefer said they'd be working with localally based promotors in the areas where they stage the fights for undercards.mfc_se15 wrote:I'm confused so who provides the undercard? Re: Super middleweight tournament
I'll bet you the organizers of this event weren't thrilled that Eubank Sr. kept referring to it as the Super 8.
They probably would want you to call it by it's proper name. The World Boxing Super Series.

Re: Super middleweight tournament
He throws high volume against over matched punching bags. He was not letting his hands go against Saunders. Lets see if he is willing to throw when he is hit in the mouth by Groves or Smith. We cant completely discount Eubank win though he is a decent fighter.Ezzard wrote:I think Jr could win the whole thing.

Will be interesting to see if Groves catches him flush how he reacts.

Call me a filthy, easily pleased casual if you must, but I'm looking forward to the Super Middle Tournament. It's not as good as the Cruiser line-up, but little in life is.

Re: Super middleweight tournament
Ya, definitely not as good as the cruiser tournament (which is like a dream come true for me), but I think it's pretty solid compared to what we usually get. Many of the fighters should be tested in ways they haven't been...magnus wrote:Call me a filthy, easily pleased casual if you must, but I'm looking forward to the Super Middle Tournament. I think Saunders was too much too soon. But as you explain it above...this will be the true test of Jr.Tarkus wrote:He throws high volume against over matched punching bags. Re: Super middleweight tournament
I'm not completely against this type of tournament but I just wonder who exactly is behind it.
I agree that the cruiser weight competition is attractive ( mostly East europeans , which might be a clue) but at super middle there is no DeGale, Jack, Ramirez, Dirrell or Zeuge.
At super middle the first round of fights might well go ahead, but I feel that might be the end of it. It wouldn't surprise me to find Groves 'injured' as a prospective bout with DeGale starts getting discussed.

Re: Super middleweight tournament
this tournament deffo weaker than cw but will be very worthwhile if we get eubank-groves and winner of that vs smith. plus at least we finally got to see cox in with live body and maybe brant will be good
wouldve been better with ramirez, benavidez, etc, but if you judge it by usual state of things its actually very nice

Re: Super middleweight tournament
I was happy with it because the CW tournament is excellent with the very best involved, while the SMW tournament makes up for the lack of some of the very top names by having the UK fighters all in there together, which is keeping me interested and will throw up some tasty rivalries and fights we might not have otherwise have seen.jamamb wrote:this tournament deffo weaker than cw but will be very worthwhile if we get eubank-groves and winner of that vs smith. plus at least we finally got to see cox in with live body and maybe brant will be good

Imagine Degale, Jack, Ramirez and Benavidez had been in the draw instead of Yildrim, Skoglund, Braemer, Brant or Cox
