Jarrett Hurd vs Austin Trout

Post by handsofstone »

Hurd makes the 1st defence of his IBF Super Welterweight title against Trout on the 154 card this weekend on Sky, Trout's last fight was a world title challenge against Jermall when he lost a close decision, he took to long to get going that fight and was easily outworked for spells, his accuracy was way off but Jermall's a great fighter so no disgrace there, Trout has his flaws but on his day he can be a handful, I think he can beat Hurd here, I thought Hurd looked a bit plodding against Harrison and he struggled with the movement before finding a knockout punch

Plodding fighters are made for Trout and despite being down a few times Trout is durable and been the distance with some great fighters, unless he fights in a shell and allows Hurd to look the boss I can see his southpaw style and awkwardness giving Hurd plenty trouble

In saying that Trout is getting on a bit at 33 so the younger fresher Hurd might be getting him at the right time, still i'll go with Trout on points

Good come from behind stoppage win for Hurd against a guy who's never been stopped and been the distance with the likes of Cotto, Alvarez, Lara and Charlo, he looks big, strong and punches with authority but fvck me he's pedestrian, he walks around stalking like GGG but without the skill or punches, he does actually look good when he puts his punches together but he never does it, he's got 2 gears, neutral and 1st, everyone else in this division is wrong for him he has no urgency

I tipped Trout beforehand and for the 1st 6 rounds he boxed Hurd's ears off, he couldn't sustain it though and gassed, he had a little surge and still had success but by then Hurd was hurting him and his legs struggled to hold up, Hurd though is a bit too patient and a younger guy will maintain a pace

Good call to stop it by the corner ,Trout was getting nailed hard

Didn't get to see this one. Arrived home just in time for Charlo Lubin. But your description of the bout sounds like Hurds title winning fight.

I like the lad. He's trained to be a firefighter, I think. Degrees & all. I always respect athletes who bother to do that, especially from the USA or UK where, if you have talent you often have your head turned by money sharks.

Hurd definitely showed the same traits as he did in the Harrison fight, I can slate him but at least he's different from most other top SWWs, great division but too many slicksters

Mate

I respectively disagree. I think the division is full of exciting fighters - and Lara

Hurd struggles with a 4 year past his prime Trout until age caught up with Trout.
Just not impressed with Hurd. I think there are at least 4 guys that would take his belt with relative ease.

He's one of those fighters that look easy to beat until you're in the ring with them.

He's definitely starting to show that he's a dangerous guy until the final bell rings.

Miles better fight than I expected. Yeah Hurd didn't look great but I think he fought the way he did to really make a statement. You are fighting a good name on showtime and he wants to impress.

Hope Trout packs it in now. Always comes across really well and he has probably made some good money from the sport too.

No question, trout looked brilliant through 5 and then hurd took over the fight. He'd make Lara work. Hope they make that one.

Did I just see Trout in a fight of the year candidate?!

That was a great fight and Austin was thoroughly outboxing Hurd for round after round until he wore down. Myabe it would have been different if he hadn't been coming off a 17 month layoff but that's his and his team's responsibility.
He ended up taking a fair bit of punishment but I don't think he necessarily should retire now. He hasn't had a Gatti like career. Maybe he & Lubin could face off next Spring.

Personally I'd had Lubin spend 2018 rebuilding slower than that.
