I can see alcohol being banned at boxing soon.
Some nightclubs require some form of ID to get into now, and they scan it on the door. This method used in a boxing arena could be detrimental to the gate, as not everybody has ID, so this may put off a promoter, hence I suggested a photo on entry, as you would have it in the back of your mind that the police will have access to a ready made mugshot to plaster all over the local rag.
And as I said, security with footy style camera on a pole.

I don't recall entering boxing even at a small hall venue without getting a decent search. They must have had an off day on the door?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I'm from America. No idea, that's why I commented. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
there's two points here.
Firstly the stewarding was totally below what was required. Sufficient and well trained experienced stewards would have identified very early where the potential disturbance was going to occur , swamped the area and nipped it in the bud.
Secondly , good stewarding costs money. The costs of a promotion at this level is steep ,with the profit margin virtually negligible. Keeping stewarding costs to minimum could mean breaking even.
What we see in the video clips is a society problem - not a boxing problem. Why do we not see this anymore at top level football matches? Sufficient stewards, sufficient police and brutal sentences at court. Small hall promoters simply can't afford this. I don't know the answer.

There was searches as in bags pockets and a pat down there when I went the other week.
Maybe time to use metal detectors like at some big shows. Easy to say in hindsight though for the record I've been at a number of BCB shows at that venue and always felt the organisers doing enough to keep me safe.
I believe at the town hall security is covered by the venue.

The fact is its easy to get a knife in down your pants past your average bouncer, not talking from experience by the way. There is only so much they can do on a basic door search. Metal detectors will solve the knife and gun in the venue problem no doubt, but then it'll be plastic knuckle dusters all around. If someone is intent on being a dickhead, they'll usually succeed in doing so one way or another.
It is a society problem here in the UK. Every young lad goes out with a chip on his shoulder these days. They all think they are hard as feck with their 'gym bod', sleeve tattoo, designer beard, and 'Insta' snaps. Young British men are generally a bunch of proper feckin mongs these days. We really need a major war and a dose of conscription to really sort these absolute tw@ts out.

And if they found a knife or a gun on you, and they knew that the hypothetical you was a face, do you think they'd refuse entry and phone the police? Or do you think they'd melt and wave you through?Counter-puncher wrote:I don't recall entering boxing even at a small hall venue without getting a decent search. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
Any sporting event in the UK comes under the Public Order Act of 1986 doesn't it? This was the legislation the Thatcher government brought in to stop football hooliganism which had gone totally out of control in the mid 1980s and when the courts started dishing out very harsh sentences it drastically altered the hoolie culture as you could get nicked for virtually anything within a mile of a sports stadia. The act gives local government and police significantly enhanced powers to stop, search and arrest or refuse entry to anyone they believe may endanger the public. I'm pretty sure this act would cover even the smallest sporting event such as a local boxing show as it comes under the sports section of the act, the main reason for it. If someone is caught carrying a bladed article into a sporting arena they should be arrested and prosecuted not just refused admission ffsSaadOffTheDeck wrote:I'm from America. Ha good question, not remotely being a 'face' I wouldn't know how they get treated. That's got to be a possibility I suppose.Sklar wrote:And if they found a knife or a gun on you, and they knew that the hypothetical you was a face, do you think they'd refuse entry and phone the police? Sad post but very apt, alas. These are the main reasons I no longer go for a quiet pint at my local nowadays and I don't even live in a big town or city, far from it. I have two sons in their teens and 20's and it makes for a lot of sleepless nights on a weekend, the phone rings and the missus jumps up in the air ffs. We need to build some bigger jails and start throwing away the fuckin key in my opinion, the deterrents are simply not there these days, life is so cheap to these scumbags who carry weapons.SAPFO wrote:The fact is its easy to get a knife in down your pants past your average bouncer, not talking from experience by the way. seems the case, at least in the boxing crowd. it is a 'tough guys' sport after all. likely to attract a dispoprionate amount of guys who think theyre hard and want to show it. bit of a dumb mans sport to be honest.SAPFO wrote:The fact is its easy to get a knife in down your pants past your average bouncer, not talking from experience by the way. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
I don’t think the average boxing crowd is any dumber or rougher than the average football crowd, to be fair. It’s just more likely to kick off at a boxing show due to poor security, no crowd segregation, and a more tolerant attitude from venues towards idiots who have been drinking all day.jamamb wrote:seems the case, at least in the boxing crowd. it is a 'tough guys' sport after all. likely to attract a dispoprionate amount of guys who think theyre hard and want to show it. bit of a dumb mans sport to be honest.SAPFO wrote:The fact is its easy to get a knife in down your pants past your average bouncer, not talking from experience by the way. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
I went to the Ice Hockey for the 1st time a few months ago, my mrs got free tickets to see Dundee Stars play Nottingham Panthers and it was excellent, honestly a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be, it had a real family feel to it, kids love it, they do wee games at half time to keep everyone entertained and I even got to have a few beers which you cant do at the football up here, both sets of fans got on it was brilliant, also helps that hockey is such a fast flowing end to end sport, you don't have to be a fan to enjoy it, even the bird enjoyed it and she's a miserable pudendum
Football, boxing etc have their fair share of dull matches but I doubt there's been many dull Ice Hockey matches

From the video footage, a lot of those involved in throwing chairs and generally acting the tw@ seemed to be blokes in (at least) their 30s, rather than young lads. Absolute bellends, the lot of them.
Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
young UK men these days have no rules n boundaries and never have. I hate to sound old fashioned but it's down to parenting. They no longer have a deterrent for anything. Refuse School and control situations from there teens if you think it's bad now trust me it's going to get worse.
you only have go one of your local budget gyms , I've never seen so many pumped up lads with them silly vest showing all there sted bodies off.
all obsessed with looking hard. Broken Britain is not stopping any time soon.

Sentences not long enough for carrying a blade to deter - make stiffer sentences and automatic jail for carrying.magnus wrote:From the video footage, a lot of those involved in throwing chairs and generally acting the tw@ seemed to be blokes in (at least) their 30s, rather than young lads. The ones throwing the chairs (mostly) were the Walsall lot but apparently the blade came from the Derby crowd. The lad that's died is from Walsall area.magnus wrote:From the video footage, a lot of those involved in throwing chairs and generally acting the tw@ seemed to be blokes in (at least) their 30s, rather than young lads. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
Awful news and unfortunately been coming for years. I've never been to a night of boxing where there hasn't been a few hairy moments in the crowd and I'm not soft.
Coked up bladddered lads who simply don't have control of themselves. They'll look back in ten to fifteen years and be embarrassed by themselves but trying telling them that now. I don't bother going any more.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the young lads who've been killed or seriously hurt.

Good to see how aware people are of mobile phones being used as videos these days. It's as if they have no idea that a video they feature in can be used as evidence
