I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND ON THIS FIGHT I WATCHED A NEW DOCO ON TOMMY MORRISON AND I KNEW ABOUT HIS LEFT HOOK BUT I DID NOT REALISE HOW DEADLY IT WAS HE THINK IF TOMMY TRAINED PROPERLY AND EVEN IF COONEY DID LIKE WISE I THINK MORRISON CATCHS GERRY BEFORE ROUND 8 AND KO'S COONEY IN 5 :bag: THE DUKE WAS A BETTER FIGHTER THEN I FIRST THOUGHT WHAT A SAD STORY. :verysad:
Morrison had 2 left feet. He was a chin looking to get hit... Check out his fight with cherry-picked challenger Michael Bentt who was 10-1. Morrison's chin was worse than Ken Norton's or any so-called World Champ I've ever seen in my life. Anything solid hurt him. Bentt caught Morrison with a decent shot and hurt him, then became an extremely unlikely Heavyweight Champion by blowing Morrison away with a follow up flurry in the 1st round.

In his next fight Bentt faced skilled professional Herbie Hide... He didn't have a chance in Hell and absorbed a frightful beating -- ending his career.

When Morrison was dead in his prime and you couldn't miss him with a punch... People forget how green Ray Mercer was when he fought Morrison.. Mercer only had 17 fights, but had an invincible chin.. He easily absorbed everything Morrison threw.. Check out the first 20 seconds of the 5th round. Mercer had a very good 4th and hurt Morrison. He decided to punch the chinny-chinned Morrison out then and there. He threw a hard flurry of sharp shots to open the 5th and Tommy was history -- a really sad looking smashed out fighter.

In his next fight Mercer was solidly out-boxed and schooled by 42-year-old pot-bellied ATG, Larry Holmes.. Holmes chatted casually with ringsiders as he easily finessed the green Mercer.. "I ain't no Tommy Morrison" the master remarked as he made Mercer miss and ripped sharp counters to his body.

Cooney wouldn't have survived Morrison or Mercer's onslaughts that night. As per usual, pointless observations.

Morrison was destroyed quickly by neophyte Michael Bentt... He'd get as far as Ken Norton did against prime Cooney... Chinny guys didn't hang with Gerry.

Right... Norton won his previous fight with Randall "Tex" Cobb so he must have been really washed up all right.

The truth is, Cobb couldn't punch... Cooney at his best COULD punch -- and Norton couldn't take a real good one -- and neither could Morrison.

This could go either way. Both could bang but I just think cooney the better of the two. If they fought 5 coney would win 3 and lose 2 by ko probs.
