Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
Knives have been the weapon of choice in Glasgow since the 'razor gangs' went out of fashion in the 1960's. Knife crime dropped rapidly over the years due to the police 'bending' the rules and searching anyone who looked remotely like a person who'd carry a knife, including the girlfriends for a while.
Unfortunately the politically correct mob thought that this was awfully unfair and those big bad corrupt cops shouldn't be allowed to pick on nice young people just out to enjoy themselves. So, Theresa, when she was Home Secretary bowed down to them.
Now the police have to fill out lengthy forms ( age, gender ( if they've got one! ), ethnicity, disability etc etc ) before they carry out a search, and believe it or not, hand out a form to everybody once they've been searched. Currently there are thousands of complaints against police officers for carrying out searches from years ago before this regime was brought in, each one having to be investigated. If you were a police officer today - would you carry out many searches ?
Knife crime in London increased 60% last year. There's a surprise !!!!

RIP to the lad who died.
I read somewhere that the incident was in or at the entrance so possibly outside the arena proper and the responsibility and control of the security team?
I've seen crowd trouble at the Ice Hockey. A player who'd been dismissed was goaded by the opposing teams fans, reacted and all hell let loose. In fairness it was short lived. Funny how a dust up on the Ice itself seems to satisfy the fans whereas a proper dust up in a boxing ring makes them want a punch up. The booze must play a huge part...

Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
You can get up to 4 years inside just for carrying a knife and if you are caught twice it's an automatic prison sentence, our laws on weapons are some of the toughest in the world. The guy who killed the kid will get a life sentence with a minimum 20 years probably more.3132DW wrote:Sentences not long enough for carrying a blade to deter - make stiffer sentences and automatic jail for carrying.magnus wrote:From the video footage, a lot of those involved in throwing chairs and generally acting the tw@ seemed to be blokes in (at least) their 30s, rather than young lads. I know a recently retired 30 year DC in the police. He said it's not worth the hassle searching non whites especially, as you could end up on a charge yourself. PC has gone mad, Let police, police. Train them, and trust their judgement, cam then all up if need be. We could all walk into the city and pick out the most likely suspects regardless of race. A bit of fear of a search may just deter one or two. If one is a potential murderer, then its worth it.dalcumly wrote:Knives have been the weapon of choice in Glasgow since the 'razor gangs' went out of fashion in the 1960's. It's an eye for an eye in the states and it really doesn't stop crime, don't know what the real answer is, young kids do seem to want to prove they are badmen though,Sklar wrote:Not enough. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
I'd hazard a guess the drunken 40yr old saddo's lobbing chairs & beer about where not the culprits of the fatality.
Perhaps something nasty went down outside, maybe a gang related issue or feud ?
We will just have to wait for the facts to emerge.
But boxing is seeing more of this crap lately.

Add in the extra hassle of having to find an interpreter (even if the person was born and brought up in England) you can see why some feel that it and it isn't worth the aggro.SAPFO wrote:I know a recently retired 30 year DC in the police. Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
Although I agree with the above, there is on only person to blame for what happened and that is the person who left their house that night carrying a knife.dalcumly wrote:there's two points here.
Firstly the stewarding was totally below what was required. Sufficient and well trained experienced stewards would have identified very early where the potential disturbance was going to occur , swamped the area and nipped it in the bud.
Secondly , good stewarding costs money. The costs of a promotion at this level is steep ,with the profit margin virtually negligible. Keeping stewarding costs to minimum could mean breaking even.
What we see in the video clips is a society problem - not a boxing problem. Why do we not see this anymore at top level football matches? Sufficient stewards, sufficient police and brutal sentences at court. Small hall promoters simply can't afford this. I don't know the answer.
Blaming the law, Police, Security, Stewards or "society" is not right.

Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
The information I provided regarding knife crime in Glasgow and the effectiveness of stop/searches reducing knife crime is factual . Because for many years I was one of those leading the investigations into murders using knives and was very familiar with the stats.
The fact that the Home Secretary made stop/searches more difficult for the police is factual.
The number of stop /searches carried out by the police in London over the last 2 years has dropped considerably , Google that !
You say that knife crime is ONLY up 24% according to research on Google. What period was mentioned in that research. I think it was in July when Cressida Dick acknowledged that the drop in stop/ searches has a correlation with the increase in knife crime.
From memory I was sure that the period she was talking about showed knife crime had increased 60% but I stand corrected if I got it wrong, and apologise.
But can I ask what point you're making regarding my comments. As somebody mentioned earlier both of you seem clever chaps.

Re: Walsall Town Hall show stabbings
so true. you're always on edge at the boxing - have to really watch yourself with people out of their heads on booze and drugs. im not sure how many people go and even watch the fights properly. it just seems to be an excuse to get blotto for a lot of the crowd and i'd never take my mrs or kids to a live show.fightfaninfrance wrote:Awful news and unfortunately been coming for years. I've never been to a night of boxing where there hasn't been a few hairy moments in the crowd and I'm not soft.
Coked up bladddered lads who simply don't have control of themselves. They'll look back in ten to fifteen years and be embarrassed by themselves but trying telling them that now. I don't bother going any more.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the young lads who've been killed or seriously hurt.
when you're young it seems like fun but when you get older you just see them acting like fools over nothing. trying to prove something that doesnt even really matter.
we dont know what role the kid who got stabbed had but its the lowest of the low to be tooled up and murder someone like this. if its a few punches and then all home with some bruises without involving anyone who doesnt want to be involved then fair enough.
