Maciej Sulecki vs Jack Culcay 21 October in Newark

Post by dagilechia »

Representing Warsaw, Poland, Sulecki pulled off his most impressive victory to date last year when he stopped then unbeaten contender Hugo Centeno Jr. in the 10th and final round of their fight. The 28-year-old has picked up victories over Damiam Bonelli and Michi Munoz since then as he seeks a world title at 154-pounds. Sulecki will return to Prudential Center for the second time after knocking out Jose Miguel Berrio in 2015 at the venue in Newark.

Culcay was originally born in Ecuador but grew up in Germany and in 2008 he represented the Germans at the 2008 Olympics. The 32-year-old was dominant in winning his first 14 pro fights and picking up the WBA inter-continental super welterweight title. Culcay put together another seven-fight winning streak and won the WBA interim super welterweight title before dropping a world title bout to Demetrius Andrade by close split-decision in March.

This fight is announced as an eliminator to WBC title held by Charlo

Charlo vs Sulecki could be a good fight

sulecki was a pillow puncher and suddenly starts scoring stoppage after stoppage at higher level. i wonder what happened. one of boxings most improved but what was his method.

Early in your career it's not unheard of for guys to develop better KO ratios as their technique, and overall skill level improves. They start to land their shots more accurately on the target, and as a result their punches start doing more damage.

At first, I overlooked that this fight was happening. But I was perusing the light middleweight rankings, clicked on Sulecki's record, and realized that he was fighting Culcay, and that it was happening in one week no less.

So anyways, I think this is a pretty significant fight. This is the two most unheralded fighters in boxrec's top 10. Culcay has only once fought an opponent as good as Sulecki, and that opponent was Andrade, whom Culcacy dropped an SD against (frankly pretty impressive, given how much of an underdog he was). Sulecki has not yet been matched against an opponent as good as Culcay. The winner of this fight, especially if it is Sulecki, distinguishes himself as being in the mix of the division's world class talent. I think whoever wins, you have to rank that winner ahead of Cotto, Liam Smith, Bundrage, Juliam Williams, etc. The winner may or may not even deserve to be above Trout. It's important to point out that it is very evenly matched (which makes it worthwhile) and it is between two fighters who have been marginally tested (which means it goes a long way towards answering questions about both fighters); so I think it's pretty important.

I guess I'll pick Culcay. I have to imagine that going 12 rounds with Andrade must have taught him some things.

i see Sulecki as the most talented Polish fighter at the moment, some say he was a pillow-puncher, which is true looking at his record, but it was at early stages of his career and at middleweight and super-middleweight. not really tested so far, but still broked a chin of past-prime Proksa, and dominated Centeno Jr to KO him in round 10, it was hard to find a decent opponent for him because he is unknown, dangerous, and is not very profitable to fight him in terms of money (his first 3 fights in the states were non-televised, and 2 of them even after main event) but he always complained to his promoters and on interviews about level of his opponents and that he needs to fight the top fighters, he said that he gonna KO Proksa and he did, said that he will totally dominate Centeno and he did, i hope he does once again vs Culcay. Sulecki is 185cm, Culcay is 172cm, big size difference but Andrade is as big as Sulecki is and Culcay did well. Sulecki is a guy that comes from the worst parts of Warsaw, he got character and always will give his heart in the ring.
he is very confident and says he will bring a terror in the ring :bag:

he doesn't seems to be visibly short-handed for his size so i believe these measures are wrong
boxrec says that Sulecki is 173cm, Centeno 192cm, look at this pic

Culcay is awkward and boring. Hopefully Sulecki drops him like a bad habit!! :OhYes:

You mention Culcay's well-known amateur credentials...does Sulecki have any amateur resume to speak of?

Sulecki started boxing career in one of the Warsaw boxing club, with trainer Roman Misiewicz which i find a one of the best among Polish amateur trainers, Sulecki amateur record is 110-30, he was i think three times junior champion and once senior champion in Poland if i remember well, not a lot of success in Europe and World as he moved pros quickly

Fonfara and Sulecki in 2002, Fonfara was hyped to be better and most talented, but i believe that Sulecki is a lot more talented out of these 2 :TU:

this sulecki guy just seems to have gotten way better over last few years. was impressive how he made hugo his bitch then knocked him out. also easily stopped proksa. seems like he should win.
