Nice win for Jermell! I thought Lubin is gonna give Jermell a tough fight and even win the fight

Post by apollo creed »

The thing is many people thought Lubin is the next Errol Spence Jr and he will give Jermell all he can handle but the truth is Lubin was beating some mexican bums and he didn't have no decent wins on his resume to indicate that he could be a real threat at 154 lbs. By the eye test Lubin looked good but he still was an unknown quantity due of his poor opposition he was facing till he fought Jermell. He's young and he has a lot of time to bounce back. Lubin could fight guys like Hatley, Willie Nelson, J Rock, Bundrage, Diego Chaves, Trout and Martirosyan to gain some good experience. :OhYes:

I never was impressed by Lubin. I was very impressed by Lomachenko, Usyk, Joshua, Spence when they were coming to the top, but Lubin never looked like a future champion for me. Tony Yoka also doesn't impress me at all - he is KO waiting to happen.

Lots of people had Lubin as the slightly favorite in this fight. The eye test lied in this case. :OhYes:

Jermell is the kind of fighter that he has to prove himself in each fight he fights since he doesn't have a defining win on his resume. I'd like to see him vs Hurd or Andrade or move up at 160 lbs. :TU:

Wait, so now you're down on Lubin after predicting that he would beat Charlo prior to the fight? Let's be fair for once here Apollo. This sport is tough to predict who's going to beat who...you were wrong. Can't you just leave it at that? No, instead we have to go back in with forensics and blame Lubin's resume to find how it was possible that we could be wrong and make the wrong prediction.

The kid got caught with a 1 out of 1000 type punch that landed perfectly and shut the lights out. I still think Lubin can beat Charlo and a freakish ending like that doesn't change my opinion. Credit to Lubin for choosing not to go the usual route with showcase fights. It was a ballsy move.

It was a nice win, but his opponent was chinny, so this win by itself doesn't add much to what we know about Jermell.

I admit that I thought Lubin is a tough mofo that would take Jermell in the trenches but I got wrong.

Lubin looks like he has a strong mandible, what he lacks is experience. :OhYes:

In fairness to him I wouldn't put the kid in the "glass jaw" club just yet. He got caught cold. It happens.

Was a hell of a shot, and the timing, and placing of it was perfect to the do the kinda damage it did.

It was a very scary KO definitely. It's always interesting to see how a guy comes back from something like that. Does he shake it off, and perform well from here onward? Or does he get decked again next time out?

It'll also be interesting to see how he's managed from here. Are they gonna match him against guys that can't punch for a while to build him back up?

I think Lubin is certainly a better fighter than he got the chance to show against Charlo. We'll see if this loss has a lasting effect on the way he fights from here onward.

You could definitely see somebody being gunshy next time out after a vicious KO loss like that.

Nah man. That was a FOY candidate just getting warmed up when that crazy punch landed in the most perfect spot. If they fought tomorrow, I'd still take Lubin. I really would. We all took it in the ass Saturday Night when Lubin got caught cold. So freaking disappointed.
