Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Wilder fights Bermane Stiverne again who only had 1 fight since that loss and is listed as inactive!
Bermane Stiverne Is probably the best fighter on Wilders list of opponents.
Wilder having had 38 bouts has never fought anyone in the box recs top 15 .
Is he really the worst heavyweight champion ever?

No
There's been weaker Heavyweight Titlists just within the last 10 years.

He isn't the worst champion now.
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Anyone considering him a champion is the worst ever ![[icon_twisted.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
No he isn't but for someone who's been so successful in terms of length of reign and number of defences, his resume is disappointing to say the least. We just don't know how good he is ... or isn't.
How can we still be saying that about someone who has held the WBC belt for three years?

Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
As far as i dont like Wilder, he has some solid wins in his resume.
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
He’s not the worst. That’s a sensationalised statement of nonsense. His career is underwhelming big time though. He has got unlucky vs the drug cheats though
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Wilder has beaten Stiverne (a former belt holder) so he surely can't be the worst world champion ever now can he?
That's without even mentioning Ibragimov, Liakhovich and Maskaev who, off the top of my head, all have weaker resumés than Wilder. Maskaev's only successful defence was against Peter Okello...

Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
The worst thing about wilder is you expect more from him
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
I'm with Grailer on this one. Wilder is one of the worst Heavyweight Champions to hold the belt as long as he has. How could that be argued? In January, Wilder will have been champion for 3 years. 3 freaking years and not one significant title defense.

No doubt about that, right there with vitali.caldo2025 wrote:I'm with Grailer on this one. Wilder is one of the worst Heavyweight Champions to hold the belt as long as he has. Exactly. We all want to see him tested, but there have been far weaker champions...Ossyrules wrote:The worst thing about wilder is you expect more from him

Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
No I wouldn't say he is the worst of all time, as there has been some truly awful champions in the past. Everyone know's Wilder should've had better opponents in his defenses but having Povetkin and Ortiz failing drugs tests isn't exactly his fault (if they did genuinely fail) If Wilder would've beaten Povetkin and Ortiz you would say he has a better resume than AJ - and AJ is like a god atm in the boxing world...
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Ortiz and povetkin wouldn’t trump beating Wlad imo. Wlad dominated povetkin and Ortiz has looked good, but also look ordinary. They would definitely make wilder a respected champ though.fightfan95 wrote:No I wouldn't say he is the worst of all time, as there has been some truly awful champions in the past. Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
You can't use "if's" and "buts" in Boxing, man. AJ should get all the credit in the world for fighting Wlad within a year of winning the belt because he actually did it. He didn't just talk about it. Heck, AJ's resume looks so much better than Wilders at this point. Wlad, Whyte, Breazeale and even Martin was an undefeated fighter at the time that was largely unknown and some thought dangerous at that point in AJ's career. Tough fights when you consider they were all inside a 16 month stretch of time. Nah man. Give AJ his due. He's doing it right.fightfan95 wrote:No I wouldn't say he is the worst of all time, as there has been some truly awful champions in the past. Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
One of the worst, so far. If he will beat Joshua, Povetkin, Parker, Ortiz, (T. Fury??), we must reconsider that.

Wtf is wrong with most of the folk on Current Scene? Do you all drink the same water or what? Should change the name from Current Scene to Window Lickers

I get where you're coming from. I'm not trying to take anything away from AJ as you're right he is doing things the right way and yeah his record is far more impressive than Wilder's - and tbh I don't know why I'm sticking up for Wilder as I'm not a fan, but I think many people are disregarding the Povetkin and Ortiz's mishaps. I think we will eventually see AJ v Wilder next year though!caldo2025 wrote:You can't use "if's" and "buts" in Boxing, man. Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
If we were talking about a contender or someone in the top ten or fifteen, then I would agree with you. Wilder is however the WBC champion and not a newly crowned champion either. He has held the prestigious green belt for three years. He has to be held to a higher standard.Cent0089 wrote:As far as i dont like Wilder, he has some solid wins in his resume.
Looking at it from that perspective, Molina, Duhaupas, Szplika, Arreola, Washington, and Stiverne look about as solid as the skin on a rice-pudding.
Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
Let's put it this way... Even a 2nd rate contender like Gerald Washington beats the shiit out of Michael Bentt... If you didn't have Herbie Hide to destroy Bentt well before that fight happened, you don't know Boxing.. Tommy Burns, Marvin Hart, Jimmy Braddock, Joe Walcott, Tommy Morrison, Charles Martin, Ingemar Johansson, Bob Fitzsimmons, and several other Heavyweight Champions wouldn't have a prayer against Wilder.Grailer wrote:Wilder fights Bermane Stiverne again who only had 1 fight since that loss and is listed as inactive!

In fact Ingemar Johansson flat out refused to say he would fight Sonny Liston.. He said "That's something I would have to think about because he's a dangerous Heavyweight." Liston wasn't some kind of beast, so why wouldn't Ingo fight him??? Because Johansson was smart enough to realize that his defensive skills weren't adequate to fend off somebody like Liston. Sometimes you just have to be realistic.
Having said that, is Wilder going to beat AJ??? ... Hell no, he's going to get knocked cold.

Re: Wilder is worst HW Champion ever?
He is actually.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He isn't the worst champion now.
Even I have to admit he's probably not the worst champion ever, but he does defend it against the worst title fighters ever, and really, the worst by distance actually.
And the story is getting more and more sad, why does he fight Stiverne right now? He payed Stiverne off right? So why didn't he mention Parker any more? A title unify fight had priority right? Why no Whyte who offered over 5 milion? Why no Ruiz Ortiz? Why didn't he even try to get Takam? Or just in case even try to get Chisora? Oscar Rivas? Kownacki?
Also, why did he wait for several months before signing the fight to fight Ortiz? While everybody was talking about it already? Only because your personal lab was suspended? Like I predicted?
Also, why did you spoke about dopingtests for Ortiz, while your own car was full of drugs? And why don't you say such things to Stiverne? Who actually did get caught for banned substances? And skipped his latest test I know of?
The answer is, because Wilder only fight bums, and loves to destroy innocent people their carreers. He's the kind of guy that grabs the rings from his own mum's hand right someone shot her. He's the kind of guy that asks you to a party and at the door says, oh sorry you need to pay your own tickets. He's the kind of guy that challenged you knowing you just broke your leg and as soon as it's healed, he's suddenly busy all day fighting an absolute nobody that needs the payday or a world titleshot he knows he doesn't deserve.

Having pot in your car isn't failing a drug test. Not that I should have to point that out to you, but you're incredibly stupid.

Not even close to being the worst HW champion ever.
