Bryant Jennings v Don Haynesworth

Post by funso banjo baby »

Jennings is listed as fighting Don Haynesworth in dec.

I can understand Bryant taking some time out after his back to back losses in the top flight plus his entire pro record was notched up with such speed.

But Haynesworth's record is pretty awful including a loss to Robert Dunton !!! I wasn't even sure such a thing was possible.

Lets hope the skillful Jennings goes deep again early next year? He can still be a top flight operator.

Yeah, Bryant's comeback trail has been pretty damned slow. He must have gotten pretty f*cked-up by that knockout, although I haven't heard any official report of a severe concussion or anything. Arum says he wants to match Jennings with Parker in the Spring. I personally wish Jennings would've at least beat someone in the top 50 again before targeting another top 10 opponent.

Ortiz really hurt Jennings.. It was brutal.. The reason is because Jennings is so damned tough that he took a lot of really big point blank bombs.. You have to work your way back slowly from a loss like that, but I agree.. You can't get gun shy because you fought a guy who was wrong for your style and skill level.. I think the marks were psychological more than anything else.. Jennings was at the mercy of an Ortiz who we may never see again -- given his age.

It was a crushing loss physically and probably more so, mentally. I don't see the point of fighting Haynesworth though, there's easing your way back into it and then there's involving yourself in a horrible mismatch.

i think it has more to do with the fact that jennings is smarter than your average boxer and doesn't blow through his cash so he can be a bit more selective as to when and who he fights.

One thing you could never have accused Bryant of (before the bomb dropped) is being 'selective' with his opponents.

Maybe now he is a wiser and more cautious man. That would be understandable but there are limits and Haynesworth is stretching them.

It's good to see Jennings returning to active competition again, but these fights ain't really getting him back into the mix.
