Byrd was trying to please his wife by coming way down in weight when he was washed up at 37 years old... She also raised a ruckus in Byrd's 2nd Wladimir fight when he was losing badly and hopelessly over-matched by Klitschko.. She started yelling at his seconds about the lousy tactics they were giving him.. It's one thing to have your seconds yelling at you.. It's another thing when your wife gets out of her seat and starts bitching at your corner on national TV.
Byrd was stopped by 13-fight pro Povetkin... That's as much as Tracy Byrd could take... Instead of doing it in stages - for his next fight the aging and speedless Byrd came down nearly 40 pounds and looked skeletal versus Light Heavyweight Shaun George at 174... There's real dumb -- and then there's dumber.
Does weight make someones chin better?
Re: Does weight make someones chin better?
We are talking about chin, so Povetkin stoppage has nothing to do with it.
He was losing it convincingly, he was past prime - true, but he was not knocked out, not even down during the fight. It just made no sense to take more punishment and his father threw the towel.

It has everything to do with his chin... If you have a granite chin you can withstand those hits -- and you don't need to call it quits... Byrd didn't own one.

I never understood why Byrd went from HW to LH when the cruiser division was around. If there had been no cruiser at the time it would have been understandable, but there was, so it isn't.
Re: Does weight make someones chin better?
It was his wife Tracy's idea.. She had the super idea that since he started his career at 22 at 169 he'd make a great Light Heavyweight.. Just because you're 22 doesn't mean you're physically mature or at your peak.. Your body changes and grows.. You cannot force it down to an unnatural size and be effective.
