Why would Calzaghe avoid him if it was an easy fight for easy money?

The fight would have made plenty of money.Finn wrote:Because he wanted to fight Kessler, Hopkins, and RJJ. Peter manfredo was an easy fight for easy money and had US exposure. Why would he fight froch.
The reason it didn't happen is that Calzaghe didn't think it was worth the risk.

Froch wasnt a threat to clazaghe at all at that timeHorse wrote:Yes, he was.Finn wrote:Calzaghe ducked froch for example but in reality froch went on to do great things but at the time wasn't a big name or considered any threat to Calzaghe.

Re: Ducky Duck Coward Duck
So in your theory froch ducked degale? Hatton ducked witter? Fury ducked price? Mayweather ducked everyone?Horse wrote:Plenty of people thought that he was a threat.Finn wrote:How? froch was still only the commonwealth champion by the time calzaghe had beaten Lacey.

So many factors are involved in the decision whether to take a fight or not that it’s rarely clearcut enough to say fighter A ducked fighter B. People who use the duck term perjoratively are usually implying that one fighter thinks he can’t beat the other or is scared of him which is horsesh1t
Nine times out of ten it’s down to money.
Did calzaghe think he could beat froch ? Absolutely.
Did calzaghe want to risk losing his long unbeaten record to a (at the time) mouthy unproven domestic level fighter and suffer the lasting damage to his reputation that such a loss woul cause ? No way.
So yes in a sense he did duck the dangerous up and coming froch to have a glamorous big money fight with the pretty much shot RJJ in vegas but in the grand scheme of things he was totally right to do so.
And when the wheel had turned full circle, froch did the same with degale. It’s just the way the busiess works.

There is no way calzaghe ducked froch, no way in a million years.CaptainSpacerod wrote:So many factors are involved in the decision whether to take a fight or not that it’s rarely clearcut enough to say fighter A ducked fighter B. If calzaghe had fought froch and got beat by froch(which i dont think he would of) do you think it would of been a massive blip on his record looking back knowing what a good career froch has had or would him getting beat by an old bernard hopkins in vegas or an old RJJ in the legendary madison square garden that had been knocked out and beat a few times and continued to lose and get knocked out by fighters who are in a lesser level to calzaghe? So to me the higher risk was fighting an old RJJ and BHOP and to me it was down to money. He could of fought this unknown froch and done what he done to manfredo or veit but didnt and fought glass chin Jones and the turtle BHOP.

I think if calzaghe had lost to froch back when froch first started calling him out it would have damaged calzaghes reputation severely. Nobody back then could have known what a fantastic career froch had in front of him, he was clearly something way beyond british level but not nailed on for superstardom.thechump wrote:There is no way calzaghe ducked froch, no way in a million years.CaptainSpacerod wrote:So many factors are involved in the decision whether to take a fight or not that it’s rarely clearcut enough to say fighter A ducked fighter B. I agree that whe joe fought jones, roy was past his best but he wasnt yet totally shot and i’m guessing here but i reckon joe wouldve been a bigger favourite against froch than he wouldve been against jones. But yes again i agree with you it’s always been about money

I was a big fan of Froch, not so much Joe.
No way did Joe duck him. The simple fact is, Froch wasn’t at Joe’s level when he was chasing the fight. Joe, rightly, had bigger things he was looking at. Carl wasn’t anywhere near the big name he would later become. Joe was long retired by then.
Froch needed to be where he was after the Taylor fight for it to happen, but by then Calzaghe was done.
It’s shame Joe wasn’t a couple of years younger or Carl a year or two further advanced in his career, then it would have been huge.

The other fight that people say was ducked is fury v price.
To me why would you fight price when you have a then ranked Cunningham in madison square gardens open as an opponent. If price had carried on winning fury could have fought him when it was more lucrative. Fury to me has never ducked a fight and the fact he has won nearly every national and world title proves that.

Some fighters deserve to get pulled up about their actions
But I hate seeing divs who haven't got an oz of fight in them, and at the very least have never even trained in a boxing gym and gained a bit of understanding to how hard it is, slag fighters
However if fighters keep fighting knock over jobs and over matched opponents that's aggravating aswell as they gain nothing from it, it's like a bully on the pavement one-punching someone he knows won't fight back, pointless
