Does Canelo really want a rematch?

Post by boxing_rocks »

First Thurman says that he heard about Canelo not wanting a rematch. Now this:

I think Golovkin is making a big mistake not fighting in December/January. He doesn't have much time left in his career to waste.

It's not unusual for promoters to have a backup plan in case their preferred fight fails to materialise, because after all, GBP and Canelo are contractually-affiliated to HBO, so they have to fulfil their obligations to that network.

For instance, Eddie Hearn negotiated AJ's bout against Carlos Takam before Kubrat Pulev withdrew due to injury.

K2 negotiated the Saunders fight for their man (Golovkin) and even got the Brit to sign the contract, whilst they were negotiating GGG's bout against Canelo.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Canelo and Oscar know that the more time they can buy before the rematch, the better chance they have to win given GGG's age.

As a fan, i'd be fine with the rematch taking place in Sept or Oct of 2018 for all the belts. Absolutely.
