Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
I was reading some crazy comments this morning about Joyce's debut people saying he "lacks fundamentals", "lacks power", etc...
I was very impressed with Joyce he was fighting a solid opponent in Ian Lewison (just happens to be blessed wth the conditioning of a KFC enthusiast) but apart from that is game.
What's next for Joyce?

Agreed... Was just thinking the same, considering it was his 1st pro fight thought he looked decent, used the jab well, kept good distance and shape- Wasn't telegraphing shots...thought he looked better against Lewison than Whyte did.Lewison has never been down even in sparring also- Allegedly, so well done to Joyce for getting the stoppage win.
People need to stop sitting there on their keyboards with their Dominios pizza and being so negative! Get behind the lad and support the English boxers and be positive !

Aye, Luke I agree I'll be watching his journey very closely !Lukemartin wrote:Agreed... Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
totally agree. in his debut did no worse whyte did and stopped lewison earlier. and ppl talk like whyte is a legit world title contender. yes, joyces style is ugly, but hes strong and has always shown very good stamina for shw.with his ugly but persistent style hell grind down many guys who look better early.
but no, ppl seem to get most excited about knockouts over mexican lhws and absolutely glass chinned opponents like howe and carter.lolz youve proven your a huge puncher if you stop those guys!
joyce would handily beat sexton, thomas, allen, etc

i think also some ppl use world level , elite level as standard to judge him. a guy on another thread was talking negatively and was like 'oh ya, he definitelyyyy wont win a world title', but admitted that he can see him winning it all beneath it. thats still pretty damn good.

He showed a better performance as Whyte did.
Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
I was impressed. Looks like he'll be a force. He could win the British title in his second fight! Good engine, decent variety, obviously hits hard, good jab. There's a lot to like.

^ This, it really gave me the hump in the morning reading a thread about Joyce earlier and people were saying "he lacks fundamentals" like mate there isn't a medal he hasn't won as an am....Stuarty30 wrote:I was impressed. Either some lads are high level trollers or simple hop on after a few shandies

He did fine

Doing 10 rounds against an out of shape ex Brit title challenger is decent for his debut. Whyte didn't do much better. Its tough being spotlighted from your debut.

He did good, he's a big lad, in good shape, has good stamina and decent punch output, something not many HWs have. He doesn't appear to be a huge puncher but has decent ability, the million dollar question is can he take a punch.

He has a good work rate.
He just looks so crude and slow. His style is so ugly. He probably way better than he looks but he is just rather unappealing to the eye.

Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
Have to say I was a bit disappointed in Don Charles. I thought Lewison could've been pulled out a few rounds earlier. He clearly didn't want to be there, was struggling and slowing down rapidly. Unnecessary punishment IMO.
Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
I thought he moved well .looked sharp.stuck to his game plan.think his power might let him down .time is not on his side .but he fought a decent fighter for his debut. Hope he has at least 5 more by Christmas

Hopefully pal, about the power I think he will settle down and start to sit on his punches I was really pleased to see a HW with good cardiobrilo33 wrote:I thought he moved well .looked sharp.stuck to his game plan.think his power might let him down .time is not on his side .but he fought a decent fighter for his debut. 5 before Christmas will be impossible. He’s in 10 rounders!
Haye said the next time he’s out is on his undercard

I think he won’t be going down that route. Haye wants either Sexton or Allen for a title, in his next fight.

Looked like he was jumping in with his jab. He’ll struggle against speed
Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
I think some people are being a bit harsh on Joyce, yes he does have his flaws, a bit slow of foot, left hand low and no uppercut. ( the latter two can be fixed ) BUT he just stopped a guy earlier than he has ever been stopped before in a lengthy career!
Joyce has some unique talents which will make him a hard proposition for most heavyweights, he is very big and strong ( 115kg , that's heavier than Wlad and Joshua) and has a remarkable engine for his size ! I counted the punches thrown through the first 3 rounds and they were circa 83/75/100 . Compare this to most heavyweights and that is double their output !
That combination of size and output should be able to get him past most heavyweights !

On the flipside of that...he stopped an out of shape 36 year old, who seemed to twist his ankle and had been out of the ring for a year...and appeared to have been at burger king for his entire training campknockout wrote:I think some people are being a bit harsh on Joyce, yes he does have his flaws, a bit slow of foot, left hand low and no uppercut. Double the output because only half his body weight is going into the punches most of the time, it's not exactly a fair comparison on stamina, if most other heavyweightsknockout wrote:I think some people are being a bit harsh on Joyce, yes he does have his flaws, a bit slow of foot, left hand low and no uppercut. Threw strictly arm punches they could throw similar amounts. I agree his stamina is still good for his size but if he ever learns to punch with his body weight, he'll be much more dangerous but I guarantee he'll gas quicker and his output will drop 50% of so.
Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
Was a pretty impressive debut BP. Lewison was out of shape but he def looked up for it and tried a few things. Joyce done well blocking his big right and showed some patience. I like the big guy. He's never gonna be an AJ but I'd take him against most in Britain right now. Not that that's saying much lol.Boxing Prospect wrote:On the flipside of that...he stopped an out of shape 36 year old, who seemed to twist his ankle and had been out of the ring for a year...and appeared to have been at burger king for his entire training campknockout wrote:I think some people are being a bit harsh on Joyce, yes he does have his flaws, a bit slow of foot, left hand low and no uppercut. Re: Why are people disappointed in Joyce's performance?
It wasn't a bad debut, just pointing out that Lewison was hardly amazing. He was out of shape, old and didn't really look that good. A bit of desire in round 1, but little afterwards.Stuarty30 wrote:Was a pretty impressive debut BP. Lewison was out of shape but he def looked up for it and tried a few things. There was positives and negatives. Great work rate and stamina, nice movement too. But he was slow, , showed questionable power and lacked killer instict and looks like a frustrating guy to watch. I'm all for novices getting rounds in, which he did, but the general feeling of him tippy tapping was frustrating against an opponent who looked exhausted for 4 rounds.

Best thing about it was that he was relentless
