NBA is not professional boxing, Kalan. Did you see what happened to Conor McGregor?Kalan wrote:You're being typical goofball BuzzBox talking about fictional characters like Paul Bunyan.. What was your record?
Ali refused to fight Paul Bunyan as well...for the same reasons.
But Kalan has a point, Wilt and Paul had arms so long that it rendered an inside game irrelevant.
Now as far as Paul Bunyan is concerned, it was demonstrated publically on many occasions that he had a "telephone pole jab" which he used to KO telephone poles AND mighty standing Oaks in a single shot....(He even brought down the entire Midwest electric grid on one occasion...with a single playful jab to a high tension wire pole) .......and of course he used his "murderous straight right" to KO Babe (his blue ox) at a party where they were both getting entirely too rowdy. But I can't remember any documented accounts of Wilt's equivalent arsenal.
Perhaps Kalan will share with us the stories where he witnessed first hand, Wilt USING these obviously well documented attributes. Otherwise, I'm sure he wouldn't be mentioning them
As far as Wilt USING these obviously well documented attributes???? ... What planet have you been living on???? Chamberlain picked up volleyball in a matter of weeks and was already playing at a world level due mainly to his athletic ability and NOT his skills or experience.. He was a champion sprinter and high jumper.. He was a strategic thinker.. When 3 or 4 guys were guarding him he found his way to the basket.
He's the only man who ever scored 100 points in an NBA game... The opposing team was hanging on him and pounding him so much he scored a record number of free throws in that game as well... He also holds the NBA record for pulling down 55 rebounds in 1 game -- and he did it to Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics.. and he led the NBA in assists a couple times and led the entire NBA MANY times in minutes played because of his natural endurance.. He never got tired -- even dominating both ends of court and being the main focus of the other team.. Chamberlain said scoring a lot of assists was often very easy for him -- because when you're double and triple teamed that leaves teammates open.
Most guys over 7 feet tall are so slow, ponderous, and awkward they can't get out of their own way... You have no idea... Chamberlain was unique in the sense that he had outstanding speed, strength, and coordination for anybody -- not just for a man of his size.

Yes... He was 145 and 155-pound Champion in MMA.. Mayweather was 147-pound and 154-pound Champion in Boxing.. McGregor didn't run for conditioning.. Conor didn't have any Boxing trainers in his camp.. He wasn't appreciably stronger, taller, bigger, or harder punching than Floyd -- or a much better athlete..
Conor won the first 3 rounds easily.. so if it were an amateur fight and the judges were honest he would have won.. If he did roadwork and and developed much better endurance.. If he hired a Boxing coach and got his head out of the air with a better boxing stance -- and he learned how to block, parry, slip, duck, and roll punches more expertly he would have had a better chance.. He had the bad habit of an MMA fighter's balance. They have to worry about somebody diving for their legs.. They have to be alert for elbows, backfists, hammer blows, knees, shins, feet, and heel strikes.. Boxer have a completely different balance because they're only worried about being hit with the end of the fist -- a competent Boxing trainer explains the difference.. The contract that Chamberlain negotiated with Ali allowed him 6 months to train and he would learn all that.
And McGregor is not the caliber athlete who could star in the NBA, forget it... Chamberlain was one of the greatest athletes ever born. These are a few of the reasons Ali refused to say WHEN he would sign for the fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF57P1uUG0s
Ali made mealy mouthed statements like "I accept your challenge...after I get through with a few more contenders...IF I beat them."

Am I correct in saying that Wilt was bi-sexual?Kalan wrote:NOT so meaninglessly APerno ... Not if you enjoy fast cars... fast women... fast money... and happening hideaways and nightclubs and like Wilt did...

Or have Kalan's dad drive you down to the movie theatre for some classic fights. I hear they have Jem Mace night down there now.Kalan wrote:Alternatively you can always party down with BuzzBox and Golden Oldie.

You gotta be kidding... He was the most notorious womanizer in the history of professional sports.. Had no time for men.. He threatened Tom Gola with physical destruction because he messed up one of Wilt’s dates.keithmoonhangover wrote:Am I correct in saying that Wilt was bi-sexual?Kalan wrote:NOT so meaninglessly APerno ... Bulls don't have to fly for somebody who wins the opening rounds of a boxing match and peppers his opponent -- but wears down due to lack of conditioning and stamina -- to make adjustments and win the rematch by doing proper roadwork and conditioning -- and making some minor technical changes in their stance and defense by hiring a real Boxing coach and putting the work in.BoxBuzz wrote:Kalan wrote:

Quasi odious is your middle name I believe -- Buzz Quasiodious Box.
BTW... Wilt couldn't get Ali to sign the negotiated contract so he hired Football great Jimmy Brown -- who knew both Chamberlain and Ali very well -- to manage him for the Ali fight and get Ali to sign the contract.. Ali told Brown, the reason that he wouldn't sign the contract is his manager Herbert Muhammad wouldn't let him.. Ali said Herbert Muhammad thought the massive and super athletic Chamberlain was certain to KO Ali so the fight couldn't go forward.
That was another bogus excuse from Ali... Everybody knows a boxer of Ali's stature can overrule their manager.

Actually, if you put too much emphasis on pleasure you miss out on the intellectual and inventive side of life and making the world a better place.
So if you have role models you don't follow their worse traits.. You take a little from Wilt... a little from Elon... a little from Warren... a little from Gates... a little from Leno... a little from AJ... a little from Obama... a little from Francis... Some folks take the pursuit of happiness to mean the pursuit of pleasure...and maybe there's a little bit of selfishness there -- at times forgetting that we have an obligation to each other and to our planet.
