Re: Roy Rodgers vrs Charles Bronson(1952)
I used to watch Roy Rogers every week when I was a kid... One of 50 TV programs we used to watch on black and white TV.. Looking back, it's amazing how simplistic and unbelievable all those shows and story lines were, how poor the acting was, fight scenes were so exaggerated and ridiculous -- but we were glued to that TV until mom turned off the set and marched us out the door or to bed. When somebody had a bad report card it was no TV for anyone -- so we would help each other with our studies to make sure everybody passed. I remember sometimes reading comic books for hours when the TV was shut off.. If anyone complained about the TV being shut off it was off for another day as well.. any further complaint or bad attitude and it was off for another day.
Popular TV shows we watched in the 50's were: The Lone Ranger.. The Cisco Kid.. Hopalong Cassidy.. Buffalo Bill Jr.. Wild Bill Hickok.. Gun Smoke.. Rod Brown and the Rocket Rangers.. Space Cadet.. Sky King.. I Remember Mama.. Topper.. My Friend Irma.. Our Miss Brooks.. Texas Rangers.. Boston Blackie.. Riverboat.. Rama of the Jungle.. Friday Night Fights.. Jack Benny.. Jackie Gleason.. Ed Sullivan.. Dinah Shore.. The Jack Paar Show.. Dobie Gillus was an offshoot of Bob Cummings.. The original Mike Hammer, with Darren McGavern.. Root 66.. Richard Diamond.. Peter Gun.. Dave Moore.. I've Got a Secret.. Beat the Clock.. Art Linkletter's House Party.. People are Funny.. Steve Allen.. To Tell The Truth.. Many adults smoked and there were ash trays all over the place.. With everybody smoking and many TV commercials pushing cigarettes, even little kids would sneak smokes.. You could buy them from vending machines and share them with your friends in secret hidaways. It's great that most people are now free from that addiction.

Yes. Rocky was 37 when he appeared on Groucho.. 9 years later he was dead.. It must have been a horrific final minute of his life as he fell from the sky.
Other boxers I saw on Groucho were Lou Nova, Archie Moore, Ray Robinson, Randy Turpin, Bo Bo Olsen, Joey Maxim, Max Baer, and Floyd Patterson.
Bob Hope did a lot of TV specials.. He always brought boxers on his show because he was a great fan.. He would lay right into them like Groucho did.
