Not really much point getting too critical, because Jim Watt laid it out pretty thoroughly. Thought he was going to be over critical after the first 3 mins but, to be honest, I tried and found it hard to see any reason for otherwise. Only thing that impressed was how Haskins actually finished the fight. Uncalled knockdown aside, he was looking sorry for himself and all sorts through a torrid, turgid straggle of a fight. I'll tell you one thing though, an element of the detriment in the past decade of boxing in Britain isn't about PPV, FW's dominance, fake titles or duckers and divers. No, there is a much more overlooked reason...

Was watching this gem just the other day. Ahh, the flamboyance, the precision, the powahh. I was falling in love again until the stoppage in the Buckley rematch, perhaps one of the most bent looking I've ever seen.
Anyhow, back to real boxing, and Haymer - Allis looked worth the admission price alone! Proper fight for a title worth pride. Only whine I can squeeze out is that if Haymer had sustained those cuts I question whether it would have continued, likewise I think a foreigner would've been stopped instantly. That's a very minor (perhaps OTT) gripe though. I can't remember the exact round but I have no complaints about the stoppage because Allis was done a round or two earlier. Maybe not mentally, but Phil Edwards got it right. Hard to imagine it'll damage ticket sales for him in the future in any case...

Haskins has a similar style to Carl Froch and both are big heads - Haskins thought the fight would be an easy one and its dinted his huge ego having to go the distance - Very few can use that arms down method of boxing, Hammed was the exception - Haskins will get a thrashing as he steps up in class and I think last night taught him a lesson - Showboating without a gameplan is a disaster - His win was a very poor display and he knew it - Looks to me like back to the drawing boad and his next fight will be very interesting, if he doesnt change his approach he will definately get beaten very soon - Froch like Haskins only looked good against the no hopers now he is in with a better class of fighter its not so easy - They both need to learn about defending themselves otherwise they will cop a big one and their perfect records will read and 1

Totally agree with you, Dale would take him in two rounds in my opinion.

What was it with that ref? That was as legit a knockdown as I've ever seen in round 5 and nothing. The ref asks him if he's alright and tells him to take his f*ckin time.
Yet he doesn't warn the other guy for fouling which would at least indicate he thought it was a low blow or something.
That was one of the worst and most bizarre pieces of refereeing I have EVER seen.
Haskins also wanted to quit at the end of round 7 but Sanigar basically asked him "Are you f*cking serious?"
And the entrance......what a pathetic Naz attempt. Somebody should remind Haskins he's a white boy who can't dance from Britsol.
Watt actually talked about the Hamed comparison
Yeah more like a poor man's Ryan Rhodes. I mean Haskins looked awful for about 95% of that.
The only good thing about that fight is that it means that Haskins is still champion and will therefore get exposed on a more public setting against a decent domestic opponent like Kelly or Robinson.
He inspires abolutely no sympathy or support with his blatant and pathetic attempts at arrogance.

Cheers lads. i'm sure the odd body shot here and their would'nt go a missJabba The Nut wrote:Ady 1 wrote:Dale Robinson would knock haskins into next week! Dale is a well schooled boxer and haskins would gey found out if he ever did fight dale! would that fight be hard to match up???

I half expected this type of performance sooner or later, i think Haskins is a bit overrated as a "puncher" because he has dazzled some previous opposition with his unorthodox style, Anthony Mathias was like a rabbit in the headlights. This fight was horrible, i found it a struggle to watch to be honest. Haskins was just lunging in with huge haymakers and with Mbityi ducking and holding it meant for a dire spectacle.
I was shocked to hear the corner basically admit they were void of a plan and expected Haskins to blow his man out! Haskins has talent but against a straight up boxer who can counter i think he is bang in trouble, as Jim Watt said he needs to get back into the "Gymnasium" and work on the basics.

GO LEE!!!!
whoa may be this should be the slate lee page?!?! i thought he did well considering zolile kept ramming his head under lee's arm! zolile looked like a very awkward fighter, just as he did when he challenged dale robinson a few years back ne 1 remember? i think lee did well to do 12 rounds as he was clearly knackered!! every 1's sayin when he step's up in class he'll lose he's stepped up i class a few times now an he's still un beaten! and as for his cockyness/arrogance i belive tht's all for show! but after all's said an done a win's a win huh lad's?
I actually thought he paced himself fairly well, i thought he didn't look that knackered and seemed to produce his best work towards the end of the fight which was encouraging. Wasn't sure why the bodyshot knockdown wasn't counted but then again perhaps Marcus McDonnell was as confused as the rest of us, he may have thought Haskins drop to the canvas was a protest at what he perceived to be Mbityi's low head in first style, just a thought as Haskins complained throughout about te South African's tactics.

My friend who does'nt watch boxing, was completly duped by this guys bullshit talk, and made sure he watched the fight, beleiving this guy was the real deal......i tried to warn him,but he watched it anyway expecting to see a supersatr in the making. He has now decided he will take up the sport at the grand age of 27 if this guy is being considered a class prospect!Reckons he could be a contender in 2 months!!!!
All jokes aside,I like the mans confidence, but surely someone has to to have a word with this guy! he is in for a BIG fall otherwise!!!!

lee before :( lee after
he he
Am I wrong in assuming you are Dale?
I stand by my comment, I honestly believe you would school this joker within two rounds. Without sounding like an arse licker, you have a fantastic jab and combination skills. That in my opinion..................is the root of boxing! Without those skills..................forget it.

Well he is still a young professional and if he is willing to learn from his mistakes then thats fair enough in my book.big_bob wrote:Apparantly lee said this fight has been a wake up call he now know's he's gotta train harder an isn't at all pleased with his performance so maybe we'll se a new haskins?
well said a 22 year old stepeping up against an experienced if past ti challenger, in his 15th bout and comfotably winning the fight, fornicate me some of you lot are hard task masters.
I agree there is alot he needs to work on but dont right a 22 year old kid off down to the fact he won a wide UD, for crying out loud.

Well said J and Big_Bob.
That was a serious step up for Haskins. His toughest fight since Moses Kinuya. This fight wasn't totally unlike the Kinuya bout in that Lee lost his way a little in the middle rounds but pulled himself together and finished well. It seemed clear to me Haskins drew on his experience gather against Moses for Mbityi and I think Lee will benefit greatly from this tough, tough challenge from the South African and learn some important lessons for the future.
Clearly, to me, he seemed way to confident of putting Mbityi away early and that was daft way to treat a proven performer (at Commonwealth level) such as Mbityi.
The knockdown not being called was diabolical refering. A really bad call.
But on the plus side, Haskins came through some rough patches while still winning most of the rounds. His fitness looked very good and his strength seemed to hold up well too. If not, he might well have been stopped by someone who obviously came to win. That, to me, is a very good plus point.
In terms of the scoring I think it compared favourably with Culshaw, Kelly and Robinson. I think only Kelly handled Mbityi that much better than Haskins did.
It was also a good, tough fight too, I thought, despite a messy first few rounds. Unlike most of you I'm looking forward to seeing more of Haskins, you can't look great everytime. I would suggest he stays at Commonwealth level for another fight or two before considering the EBU title, but even then he still has a very powerful punch to make up some of his shortcomings.
