Degale and Selby - FW promotion

Post by sammy95 »

Interesting.....

https://twitter.com/allegedly_tv/stat ... 0523732994

No opponents named yet, but both DeGale and Selby seemed to have run down their contracts with Hearn by making money in America and having the fights shown on sky sports.

Selby makes a lot of sense with Frampton and Warrington with FW, but I am not so sure with Degale...surely he should be chasing the WBSS winner after a comeback tune up fight

Didn't see this coming.

Glad Degale is fighting over here again though. He was visibly frustrated that he wasn't fighting over here.

Came as a bit of a shock this. FW putting the BT money to good use which is great to see. With Frampton, DeGale, Selby and Saunders vs Lemieux all on the channel before the end of the year they're providing genuine competition to Sky. In fact, they might even end up with a better last quarter than Matchroom for the first time in a while.

Selby on BT should make the Warrington and/or Frampton fights easier to make for next year as well :TU:

Tough to see DeGale taking anything other than a tune-up fight. With so many big fights for him in 2018 (WBSS winner, Gilberto Ramirez etc), wouldn't expect much quality in the ring with him.

I always got the feeling in interviews, that Degale didn't particularly care for Hearn that much. He played it down when asked about it by Kugan, but there was just a feeling that something wasn't quite right.

FW has a good relationship with Bob Arum and Top Rank though and the WBO, so perhaps they're chasing the Ramirez fight.

I've always thought it was down to the Froch fight not happening.

IBF top 15 SMW

1. NOT RATED
2. NOT RATED
3. Jose Uzcategui - DQ'd in last fight so not sure if he can fight for the title. Although no sign of Dirrell in rankings so not sure if IBF made public decision about this? This fight was meant to happen at one point wasn't it?
4. Chris Eubank Jr - Tied up in WBSS.
5. Rocky Fielding - Possible. Will Eddie be bitter about Chunky going to BT and stop this happening?
6. Avni Yildirim - Just been iced in WBSS.
7. Vincent Feigenbum - Fights this weekend so would be quick turnaround. Sauerland's will probably look to build him vs Zeuge. Battle of the German bums.
8. Caleb Plant - Never seen him but an undefeated Yank is always an option.
9. Roamer Angulo - Never seen him and don't know anyone on his record. Lots of KO's against nobodies.
10. J'Leon Love - Bum. Last fight was a draw. Bum.
11. Patrick Nielsen - Just been iced by John Ryder (Ryder outside shout if he pops up in rankings?)
12. Arthur Abraham - Shot to shitt. Coming off wide loss to Eubank Jr.
13. Fedor Chudinov - Fighting Renold Quinlan in December.
14. Stefan Haertel - Never seen him fight. Only 1 KO. Probably shite.
15. David Brophy - Just been beat up by Fielding.

Guys in bold most likely IMO.

Same here. I think Degale has been quite hard to promote to be fair.

Let's be honest.. ever since they signed with al haymon there profile has gone downhill in the UK and financial would be better off if they stayed with eddie

Great for Frank though and best of luck to everybody involved as they are top quality boxers

Agree on all points

Both great talents, such a shame they've not really had that defining fight yet, hopefully Frank can get it sorted.

Yeah that must play a part. I don't think he liked how much Eddie paid either. I remember saying something to that effect when he signed with Haymon and Eddie was trying to get him to fight back on UK shores again.

I remember someone saying in the past (I think it was Mickey actually) that FW paid better than Hearn. I dont know if thats true or not.

Coco would be the man to confirm but I think you're right

Maybe not paid on time, but paid more, is how I remember it

ive heard many times that fw pays more but in all cases it was coming from journeymen/ppl who knew journymen. not sure if that translates to more for top fighters?

Yeah I don't know myself obviously. Eddie has always seemed more conservative and sticks to a strict budget (which is sensible really) whereas FW is perhaps a bit more liberal.

Yeah that was exactly it. FW pays late (allegedly) but is more generous.

Froch would have beaten him.

FW certainly pays the journeymen a lot more and on the night, in cash.

Okay I've just seen that Degale hasn't signed a long term deal with FW. It's on a fight by fight basis.

It'd be a bitter pill to swallow if I was Eddie Hearn. Two lads who ditched the UK, failed, came back and signed with his rival.

Are you a current pro or an ex pro yourself then mate? Or perhaps involved in the business side of things.
