havent seen ishida but i am almost never impressed by the japanese fighters who have to travel. the really good ones (and there are many) all seem to get it at home. id guess this guy will lack power and will eat punches like they're delicious but show toughness.

The top ones typically have big TV channels (NTV, TBS, Fuji TV, TV Tokyo) backing them with big money. The ones that have come over there in recent years (Otake, Muranaka, Iwasa, Amagasa) haven't been particularly big names in Japan (appearing on G+ cards usually) andlack TV backing.

Ishida looked on his way to getting TBS behind him (he's had a bunch of recent bouts shown on tape delay on TBS) and much of his Japanese title reign was shown on delay on Fuji TV (as part of their Diamond Glove series) so I wonder if Hearn has made a very nice offer or whether TBS are worried about the ongoing situation with Kazuto Ioka (a stable mate of Ishida's).

I really rate Yafai, I think he's arguably the most underated fighter in the country, he can box, he can fight, he hits hard especially to the body and he's shown a good chin so far, Muranaka landed some solid shots and he stood up well to them, I think the Concepcion and Muranaka fights were not only dominant wins but great learning fights, he was switched on against Concepcion, it was his 1st world title challenge, lot of pressure but he dominated a good champion and was pretty much flawless that night

Against Muranaka he had a guy who was insanely tough and never stopped pressuring and Yafai again stayed composed never got flustered and won comfortably as far as the scores were concerned

I don't know anything about Ishida, he's unbeaten but I don't recognise anyone on his record, my knowledge of the lower weights is pretty poor though, Yafai wins this wide for me

Yafai giving away a lot of height is an interesting X factor. I see him very much as an outside boxer, will be interesting to see if he can do that against the bigger man, or if he has a plan B to switch to if he can't.

117-112 Yafai, terrible fight and a lacklustre performance from Yafai, probably the worst ive seen him, he was wild with his hooks and looked a bit crude and seemed to struggle with the height and reach of Ishida and he didn't land many clean head shots, Ishida wasn't busy enough but when he had that wee spell in the 1st half of the fight, his speed and sharpness troubled Yafai, luckily for Yafai, Ishida's workrate dropped again and it allowed Kal to pull away, I think he hurt Ishida with a body shot in one of the later rounds

There was a lack of quality from both men, Yafai sems to have hand troubles so might explain the poor showing

to be honest it seems to me like thats what the visiting japanese challengers are usually like. some clearly tough and go for it but always very very limited and i can never get excited when i hear that one is coming over. so many excellent japanese but they pretty much all stay at home. to be fair thats also usually case for top brits, americans, germans, etc.

At the of the day, neither fighter looked world world class. Yafai span himself out of positionregularly, Ishida was stupidly passive,...meh
