Cast Your Mind Back 25 Years.....
"It's Halloween, and something nasty is about to happen"
I'm not 100% sure that's what Sky said but it's pretty close.
We had Lennox Lewis v Razor Ruddock on Halloween then Holyfield v Bowe two weeks later.
Bowe & Lewis looked spectacular.
Who would have won if they had met in the Spring of 1993?

Re: Cast Your Mind Back 25 Years.....
At the time if I remember rightly it was before Lewis teamed up with Manny Steward and bowe was looking good I favoured bowe he'd beat holyfield and just looked the better boxer Lewis wasn't the fighter he became later on yet but this could of been the fight that made him .but I'd pick Bowe
Re: Cast Your Mind Back 25 Years.....
I voted lewis, but that’s because the thread said 2003
I then read 1993 in the OP
Around that time Bowe had a slight upper hand. It’s quite a close call both were very dangerous, Bowe a bit more effective on the inside and possible more sturdy chin. Lewis also quite open and not quite as sturdy.
I slightly favour bowe

Bowe definitely.
I thought he was working lewis over in the olympics until he got caught too

Bowe in '93, but Lewis later (IIRC weren't they scheduled to fight again in the late 90s, after they'd both lost, right before Bowe got panelled by Golota? Or is my memory going?) in their careers.
Even if I've hallucinated later plans to get them to fight, Bowe was better as a youngster whilst Lewis matured into a better fighter, if you see what I mean, with the addition of Steward & the experience gained from losing & battling his way back. Bowe OTOH never looked the same after Holyfield II, IMO.

Bowe was still a kid really in the olympics, Lennox 3 years older, doesn’t sound like much but we’re they 19 to 22 at the olympics? It can make a difference how developed you are at that age.TheLeprechaun wrote:Bowe definitely.

However Bowe was well beat there’s no dispute in that fight
Re: Cast Your Mind Back 25 Years.....
They were looking to make the fight but Lennox lost to McCall, which put a spanner right into the works. Bowe obviously dumped the belt in the bin, horrendous action to take where the fack were his advisors.Datsue wrote:Bowe in '93, but Lewis later (IIRC weren't they scheduled to fight again in the late 90s, after they'd both lost, right before Bowe got panelled by Golota? I think Lennox could have beaten Bowe early, he was aggressive and attacking and could get you out there like he did razor, but early the pendulum swings to Bowe while lewis fought so open.
Once lewis was more refined later in his career I think Bowe would have struggled to beat him

I'm a massive fan of Lewis but at the time Bowe was that much better,Lennox matured with age where as Bowe was shot at the end of his carreer.

Toss up. Too much made of Lewis’ supposed fragility, yet Bowe was apparently sturdy?
Had it happened, Lewis would have brought power Bowe had yet to taste and I’m not sure Lewis goes out with the mentality of ‘knocking out this bum’ for this one.
So many unanswered questions and we probably lose out on an ATG trilogy!
Can see cases made for all kinds of various outcomes at the time. Bowe takes fight one, Lewis wins rematch then obliterates Bowe in the rubber.

Rock Newman was his advisor. A radio personality who fcked Bowe up big timeOssyrules wrote:They were looking to make the fight but Lennox lost to McCall, which put a spanner right into the works. I voted Lewis based on 2003
In 1993 It's a tougher call, I'd maybe lean towards Bowe (but the Lewis fanboy in me would be convinced Lennox would pull it off)
Prime for prime It's 'LL all day

His advisors were doing what most do, following the money. 10 million for two mismatches and the more lucrative rematch with holyfield.Ossyrules wrote:They were looking to make the fight but Lennox lost to McCall, which put a spanner right into the works. Bowe might have been the best ever for one night.

Why would you? I mean it's not a high point for his legacy but it didn't hurt his career any.Ossyrules wrote:If you don’t care what kind of publicity you getSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Oh, just for publicity. It worked.Ossyrules wrote:

It's about money. Ya know? Prizefighting. He went for the bigger fight for the most money. Lewis would have done exactly the same thing, minus the trash can.Ossyrules wrote:Bowe is basically remembered for 2 reasonsSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Why would you?
