Kid Galahad calls on featherweights to agree World Boxing Super Series

Featherweight contender Kid Galahad hopes his main rivals will agree to join the next instalment of the World Boxing Super Series next summer.

The Sheffield man, currently on the lookout for an opportunity to fight the best in the division, has singled out his major targets for what would be a mouth-watering competition beginning in the fall of 2018.

Once completed, the WBSS hierarchy will be on the lookout for their next two collectives of world-rated fighters and Galahad hopes the 126 pound limit is a consideration as a spectacle for the fans.

“I came up with a solution to solve the problem of fighters wanting to face each other,” Galahad explained to World Boxing News.

“I asked Carl Frampton, Josh Warrington, Joseph Diaz Jr. and even Scott Quigg if they fancied a tournament-style World Boxing Super Series tear up. Frampton did come back on Twitter but instead of showing any interest he got too busy trying to have banter and talk me down as a prospective opponent. He tried to bring the banter to me, but lost that Twitter battle too and since then he's been missing in action.

“My message to any of these guys is simple - if you're struggling to find a way to fight one another, let's all meet in the super series at featherweight!

“And for Frampton, if you don't think I belong in there then you should have no problem picking me in the first round!”

Asked who else he may throw in the mix, the likes of Nonito Donaire, Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares were put to the undefeated Yorkshireman.

“Nonito Donaire is a good fighter and is also an option I would be interested in. To be honest, my nature is such that I will fight any of the top featherweights on the planet. I feel good, I train harder than anyone and I stay focussed. I've been ready for a while but these kids don't seem to want it. Even the ones they do line me up against don't fancy it and ended up pulling out last minute.

“Santa Cruz and Mares did what was expected of them recently too. Santa Cruz was in there with a guy who had been stopped in three of his last five bouts so no surprise that Leo stopped him. Mares was in with someone who on paper was tougher but looking at the scorecards it was also a one-sided affair.

“Congratulations to them both on their wins but if they want some real work they should call me.

“Joseph Diaz is also a good fighter. He's different stylistically to Santa Cruz due to the height and reach and he's also different to Mares but I rate all three of them. I wouldn't want to fight him if I didn't rate him.

“I'm at a stage of my career where I want to mix it with credible opponents to showcase my skills to the world and that I'm cut from a different cloth,” he added.

As already said, be great if this becomes regular with two weights every year, starting again end of 2018. Featherweight would be welcome! Paired up with middleweight.

Just need to see how this one gets on first, could be pull outs come the semi's.

Any boxer choosing to enter the tournament and then pulling out in the semi's shouldn't box again.

This would be a great tournament and another me with solid British representing. Kids a good fighter so it’d be a great opportunity for him

A classic example of brazen self-promotion. Galahad conveniently leaves out Oscar Valdez, Gary Russell and some quality Japanese fighters (Matsumoto, Saka, etc) while self-servingly including himself.

Galahad has been bottom-feeding lately, mostly facing scrubs since he had a 2-year layoff from 2014-2016. He was actually fighting better opposition before the layoff.

Maybe Kid G should start facing some world-class competition on his own before he tries to pawn himself off as a legit competitor in a WBSS that he has little business being a part of.

LOL Russell is vastly overrated. He lost to a 1-1 fighter. I don't care how good Loma is, any pro with 24 fights to his name shouldn't be losing to someone who is 1-1 regardless of their amateur background.

He's good, but people are only sucking his nuts because he's American. If he was Gerwazy Rusowski from Poland people would consider him what he is, a solid fighter who slots just outside the elite of the division and is too lazy and unmotivated to bother chasing the big fights.

LSC, Frampton, Selby, Mares and Valdez are all ahead of him. He's on Quigg's level. Quigg vs Russell Jr would be 50-50. We'll never know for show though, Russell is content to fight the likes of Patrick Hyland instead.
