It'd be fun to be at that fight just shouting "Lose Some Weight!" at 'em

Anyone know how much purse Ruiz received? Obviously a career high.. but he hasn't fought in nearly a year..

I would like him to get a meaningful fight next and not take a Charles Martin route and fight a Bryan Polley.

Ruiz gave a good showing vs. Parker..

He would be a good fight for anyone.. Maybe a Breazeale.

Well Arreola while not exactly the name he once was in the division is more meaningful a comeback opponent than Charles Martin's have been.

And Andy Ruiz definitely beats him.

Well it's about time Andy got a fight. He did well with Parker, who is not the tallest HW. I wonder what he would do against one of the really tall guys.
Breazeale would be interesting, Arreola not so much.
Ruiez is still highly ranked in the WBO, despite his loss and inactivity. He needs to prove he belongs up there by having a meaningful fight and not bubbling up to the top inexplicably like Stiverne.

Ruiz vs Breazeale would be interesting. Ruiz is the better boxer, Breazeale is the more powerful and more aggressive of the two. It'd be a hard one to call.

This is an ideal fight for Ruiz Jr. to take to rid himself of ring rust.

I like Andy and believe he's a very underrated fighter.

He should get Bob Arum to make the Joseph Parker rematch on US soil.

I won’t watch, but I guess it’s not a too bad fight based on a layoff, to get him going again in the division

I'm not opposed to Ruiz picking-up a win against Arreola. Ruiz is a decent fighter, and it's a shame that his resume is lagging behind his ability. But this fight... kind of sucks. Arreola's last 5 fights have given a very poor account of him.

If this fight is on an undercard of a big fight, I'll tune in. It's a sort of test for Ruiz.

With Mansour brought up earlier, I would love to see that fight, it'd be worthy in my eyes of a no.1 contender fight for Parker's belt, obviously though I don't know if either of them are even ranked, don't really care to be honest.

I can't answer the question but I agree with all you said. I'd much rather see Ruiz v Martin that would be vey interesting. Arreola never was all that and now he's just a shell. This will be a mugging

I would just add that Arreola might be better than Polley but it's a bit like arguing that a wildebeest is a tougher opponent for a lion than an impala is, i.e. it may be accurate but is ultimately a rather academic distinction. :D

What are you talking about? Ruiz vs Arreola as an eliminator, Ruiz vs Mansour as an eliminator, or Ruiz-Arreola winner vs Mansour as an eliminator?

Ruiz vs Arreola would be an atrocious eliminator, because Parker just beat Ruiz. Then Ruiz just goes and beats someone as mediocre as Arreola and immediately gets a second shot at the same titlist. That would be horrific.

Ruiz vs Mansour, same as above, only slightly less horrible, but still... kind of bad.

Winner vs Mansour... not much better either.

On the other hand, if Ruiz vs Mansour was an eliminator for the WBA belt, it wouldn't be as pathetic. At least a Ruiz - Mansour winner would be better / on-par with the Ustinov - Oquendo winner.

Actually that's what makes it even worse. Andy Ruiz sucks too so he ain't gonna "mug" Arreola. He's just gonna outbox him and win a decision I figure. Lots of guys COULD mug Arreola, and really beat the hell out of him at this stage, but I don't know if Ruiz is one of 'em. Ruiz will definitely win though.

The Parker fight was close enough to see Ruiz deserve a rematch in my opinion

Ok I know this kind of comparison is hardly scientific, but Takam proved against Joshua that he is a good fighter. Parker got decisions over both Takam and Ruiz, both were disputable. It would suggest that Parker, Takam and Ruiz are not too far apart in terms of ability.

I think Ruiz is probably better than you give him credit for.

If not, he can jog on.

I supported him right up until the moment he weighed in at 255 for the Parker fight.
He's always weighed around that much, prior to the fight, Abel Sanchez was saying he is going to come in less heavier than he had done in the past and he would be faster, without losing much power.. He did give it a good go vs. Parker, he was quick with his hands. One can only wonder, what could have happened.

I believe if he can even get to 240-ish, he'd be fine.. and not weight-drained. Heck, some on here said he could make cruiserweight

Against arreola really, I think ruiz is a very good fighter with the best chin in the division.. he's seriously wasted talent, if he could get enough weight off he'd dominate the light heavy and cruiser weight divisions hands down.

"Arreola back to prove himself in 2018" At the time of posting this, the thread immediately above this one reads "Stiverne says he's coming back 100% dedicated"

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Stiverne v Arreola III for the WBC Heavyweight Title Final Eliminator. Admit it, you're tingling with excitement and expectation already aren't you, don't deny it.
