Joshua-Takam averaged 334K viewers
nthony Joshua’s level of opponent impacted U.S. television ratings Saturday much more than attendance.
Roughly 78,000 fans packed Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, to watch England’s Joshua stop Carlos Takam in the 10th round of their heavyweight title fight. Showtime’s live broadcast of Joshua-Takam drew an average audience of 334,000 viewers, according to ratings released by Nielsen Media Research on Tuesday.
Showtime’s live telecast began in the afternoon in the United States (5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT). The average viewership for the premium-cable network’s same-day replay, which started at 10:40 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday, was 309,000.
-----------
Joshua’s last live fight on Showtime drew higher ratings, but those ratings reflected the magnitude and entertaining nature of that bout, despite that it also began in the afternoon in the United States.
That fight – Joshua’s career-defining, 11th-round stoppage of long-reigning former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko – drew a live average audience of 659,000, nearly double the viewership of Joshua-Takam. The Joshua-Klitschko same-day replay, broadcast by HBO, was watched by an average of 738,000 viewers.

hes just not a us draw yet. he did like 250k for a previous fight, think against breazile. wlad for all his boring outings has gotten good us numbers against many opponents and i think he was the draw not aj. not sure how big aj can become in us without fighting there like wlad did numerous times.

That's why Wilder/Joshua makes no sense here. It will have ppv numbers like ward/kovalev and probably lose significant UK buys being on at 5 am.

Recently, Wilder has been averaging 2-3 million.. the delayed HBO broadcast of AJ/Wlad drew decent numbers.. but that was mostly due to Wlad..
If you start asking people to pay for for AJ/Wilder, you're going to get around 100k buys.. most people will get a stream, as for UK fans.. will still gey decent buys, but not as much as of it late evening.

Wilder vs Duhaupas averaged 2.2m and peaked at 3m.. this was on NBC
Wilder vs Washington peaked at 1.8m and averaged 1.7m.. This was on Fox..
I take it they're free to air in the US?
Still good numbers.. the washington fight is probably the 2nd highest this year behind Thurman vs Garcia

There really isn't free to air in the us. They're not good numbers though. Just good for today's boxing. It wouldn't beat figure skating.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Oct 2017, 20:35 Wilder vs Duhaupas averaged 2.2m and peaked at 3m.. this was on NBC

I disagree. Sure he could sell the tickets for it, but if last weekends show was anything to go by, they should save the stadiums for the big fights. Unifications etc. Arenas like the 02 generate great atmosphere, make it a fortresscandyslim wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 04:43Alexander Ustinov against Joshua is a stadium fight in England.Ossyrules wrote: ↑31 Oct 2017, 17:17Yes that’s a stadium fight in EnglandSaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑31 Oct 2017, 14:59 That's why Wilder/Joshua makes no sense here. Re: Joshua-Takam averaged 334K viewers
Here’s a list of the average viewing figures that Deontay Wilder has achieved during his world championship bouts:
• Washington 1.76 (Fox)
• Stiverne = 1.24m (Showtime)
• Molina = 678K (Showtime)
• Duhaupas = 2.2m (NBC)
• Arreola = 1.8m (Fox)
• Szpilka = 500K (Showtime)
Deontay Wilder’s Showtime viewership figures aren’t significantly better than AJ’s and the Brit has never stepped foot on US soil (in the context that this TV network has in excess of 20m+ subscribers).

I hear you Oz but good luck convincing yer man Eddie to accept less money than he can achieve for the same effort. Besides, the atmosphere in Cardiff was none too shabby was it. If makes it easier to get hold of a ticket I've no problem with making every defence in a stadium as long as they sell out and they keep up the noise levels.Ossyrules wrote: I disagree. Re: Joshua-Takam averaged 334K viewers
I heard the opposite about the atmosphere that it was a bit of a let down. I didn’t go to the show though so that’s third hand
Obviously I won’t be trying to convince anyone, but my opinion is to keep the stadiums for the mega fights

Re: Joshua-Takam averaged 334K viewers
Fair enough. I never heard that. Seemed pretty good on Sky but I wasn't really paying attention to what was happening outside the ring so that could be right. I guess you had to there to really know.
Re: Joshua-Takam averaged 334K viewers
Klitschiko is a very well known ATG Heavyweight Champion... Even though it poorly promoted here and featured 2 foreign boxers, it did well. I'm not surprised Joshua-Takam did so poorly. I thought it would do worse.. A lot of people had no idea it was on.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Oct 2017, 13:08 Joshua’s career-defining, 11th-round stoppage of long-reigning former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko – drew a live average audience of 659,000, nearly double the viewership of Joshua-Takam. Takam was a very late substitute opponent and nobody knows who he is and they don't realize how good he is.. Does anybody real good come in at the 11th hour for a World Title fight??? ... I had Takam beating Parker handily and also had him beating MIke Perez by a strong margin.. And what puts people off from viewing Boxing is the officiating. The judging and refereeing stinks. In this fight you had an early stoppage.. In many fights you have horribly corrupt decisions.. And now we have all this bullcrap with corrupt VADA testing over and over again.
We just keep seeing all this crap until fans are fed TF up with it and won't watch anymore.
