James DeGale: I'd Consider Move To 175, Adonis Stevenson is 40
BF Super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs) and IBF featherweight counterpart Lee Selby (25-1, 9 early) held a press conference today alongside promoter allegedly to confirm and discuss their spots on his December 9 bill, which takes place at London’s Copper Box Arena and will be shown live on both BT Sports and Box--Nation.
“Chunky” also said he would be prepared to step up in weight yet believes that his chief target at 175lbs is now too old to be a viable scalp. “I would move up in weight to light-heavyweight,” he said. “Adonis Stevenson is a great fighter but he's 40.”
“I’m delighted to be making my homecoming on December 9. I want the biggest fights, I’m recognised as the best Super-middleweight on the planet, but I need to prove it—I’ll box anyone to prove that I’m the best.”
He added: “It's time to come home. I perform better in London. [George] Groves, [Chris] Eubank Jnr and [Callum] Smith. These are the fights that I want. I want the winner (of the WBSS).”

I don't get the point of the presser if they weren't going to announce his opponent?

They were literally just hyping DeGale linking back up with FWgilgamesh wrote:I don't either.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I don't get the point of the presser if they weren't going to announce his opponent?

So he can beat Stevenson because he is 40, not because he just simply believes in his own attributes as a fighter?

It seems to be the modern way with some fighters, whereby they make an announcement that that they're going to make an announcement!
Why can't they just wait until they have something meaningful to say before have press conferences or make announcements?
Re: James DeGale: I'd Consider Move To 175, Adonis Stevenson is 40
I guess he’s had a bit of a lay off due to surgery and he’s signed a deal of sorts with warren, so just getting his name out there and some newspaper space. But unusual if there’s not fight to announce though.
It’s gog to a point where it’s difficult to judge Adonis as when you ice a lot of bums it’s not really a marker on your level

December 9 is over 30 days away.. not really that long.. You think they have an opponent but not officially announced it? Maybe waiting for the opponent to fly in from somewhere..
Also wondering if he's started his training camp.. It's still a world title defence.

Neither Degale or Selby will be fighting anybody significant so it’s not going to make much difference if there opponent is named or not.

I'm sure it will be somebody who has a name.Manchester Hitman wrote:Neither Degale or Selby will be fighting anybody significant so it’s not going to make much difference if there opponent is named or not.

The decent names, have recently just fought.ILikeBeer wrote:I'm sure it will be somebody who has a name.Manchester Hitman wrote:Neither Degale or Selby will be fighting anybody significant so it’s not going to make much difference if there opponent is named or not.

I didn't say it would be somebody who was highly ranked, I said the person would have a name.Ruthless-RKO wrote:

Most people are given names at birth.
