Buying tickets from boxers

Hi, I've been going to quite a few shows over the past couple years (chiefly because I moved to London where there are shows).

I always buy from the ticket websites, therefore I'm wondering if there are any benefits from buying direct from the boxers? I guess the main one would be if it puts more money into their pocket rather than a big company or a promoter.

If so, any idea how to go about it? Sending a tweet to the boxer would be obvious route!

100% buy tickets from boxers if you can.

9 times out of 10 a boxer on a non tv show will be on a ticket deal which basically means he has to sell so many tickets just to get on a show, so buying from will be doing him a favour.

In addition the boxer will get anyting from 5% to 20% from the sale of the tickets for his wage.

The other thing is unlike these ticket outlets you will get tickets at face value from the boxer.

The fact that the fighters themselves are made to sell the tickets in U.K. Boxing seems particularly strange to me. I don't believe that's the case in other countries, maybe I'm wrong on that.

I noticed Sean Dodd was using a site that looks like a good idea for boxers to sell individual tickets to fans etc. Only seen him use it so far tho, only downside is it seems to take a booking fee, less than usual tho. https://www.smartboxoffice.co.uk

Quite often on twitter/facebook they'll have a friend or family member selling for them so just message them

Probably because he sells about 1500-2000 tickets,its wrong that boxers have to sell tickets but that the nature of the sport,you have to be a business man plus get your training done aswell and its just added pressure to sell rather than just the pressure of being on weight etc etc

Mate, Iboxing tickets which is on Twitter is a platform that allows you to buy directly from the boxers. Or by looking on the poster for the event which should be on social media which will have the contact details for boxers.

I recently got tickets from one of the undercard fighters on the Burnett bill. I went for VIP tickets, no booking fees, free beer up to 8pm and the best seats in the house sitting ringside. I will definitely be doing that again.

Some will, some meet. I've met Kell Brook on the morning of his fight with Jo Jo Dan for tickets. Met Quigg as well a few days before he defended his title.

Since i started buying tickets from fighters or friends of fighters I've actually struggled to justify buying from a ticket supplier.

Most of these have been for larger fights but starting to look more towards some York Hall fights, it's always good to help someones career even if it is just a little!

Ticketmaster etc have enough money!

Depends really some will meet you / come to you some will post. As said some bigger names will have a mate/relative doing the tickets too.

Tommy Langford posts mine (no extra charge) once I've transferred the £ into his account, I've met Sam Eggington roughly halfway between us in Dudley and Kala girlfriend (I think) sorts out the Yafais tickets and posts them out after paying through PayPal. More local less know fighters I usually have a mutual friend or two and get onto them to sort.

I'm quite close to a local gym so I always have that option too. It's a gym where the promoter of most my local shows is based out of too so I'm starting to just go directly to them....that reminds me I've gotta pop down tonight.

I bought tickets when only about 15/16 from Johnny Armour for one of his fights that eventually got cancelled. He never gave me my money back, nor to my two pals either.

Strictly, they're not made to - they agree to - it's the deal they reach with their promoter. However, I agree that in some cases they may feel that effectively they have no choice as the promoter may only agree to put them on is if they sell, say, 100 tickets.

In my view, that's one of the reasons for a trend in small-hall boxing, which is that fewer fans these days stay to watch the whole show. Most just come to watch their fighter and then go, so the audience changes quite a lot throughout the evening.

Fighters don't agree to a ticket deal because they want to, they've no other option, if they don't sell enough tickets to cover the opponents purse and the house (promoters) fee then their fight will be pulled on the day of the fight.
