Edward Hearn
Edward Hearn
Edward gets a lot of stick especially on here but I'd like to state that in my opinion he is great at what he does and I also think he works a lot more hours per week than anybody on here. Fair play Edward your doing a great job.
I disagree with so much ppv but I still buy them all. boxing was way worse without him and he is the main reason for the resurgance of the sport in the UK. If I was him if stick to the UK and fcuk the US but that's the drive in the man that has made him so successful. Fair play Edward and keep the good night's coming.

Re: Edward Hearn
Hearn is doing a good job, FW would not be wound up by him if he was doing badly!
Re: Edward Hearn
Ha ha. That's the reply I knew I'd get here. I bet you give Edward stick behind the computer but ask him for a picture when you see him. It's a funny world with jealous people where you can't give compliments to the hard working and high achievers

Re: Edward Hearn
Unpopular facts. He's set the bar higher and higher, so by default, he's being criticised more for some of his woeful shows. Saturday was out of his hands however. I just wanna see consistently strong fight nights from Matchroom in the future.
Re: Edward Hearn
Hahaha he is like marmite for me,sometimes i like what he has done and sometimes i cant stand him but i think overall you are right,i just couldnt leave you alone without saying that hahaha sorry man

Slow day a the office Eddie
Re: Edward Hearn
He's done a very decent job, there isn't a promoter in history who hasn't put on mismatches and sold them as real fights but boxing feels alive again in this country and he has certainly played his part, whatever you think of him personally.
Re: Edward Hearn
balance the hate with reasoned comments mate and not stupid overgeneralizations. matchroom has done very well for uk boxing, ajs rightfully a star, eddie works hard, so do many people other ppl, and ppl can question things for reasons other than jealousy (in reference to an odd comment of yours on another thread).
i mean have you actually consulted each person here to see how many hours they work? you can bust your ass and still post on a boxing forum. you can disagree with a training arrangement without it being out of spite.
you seem to have a bit of that 13 year old on twitter 'hater gonna hate' mentality

Re: Edward Hearn
Matchroom provide the majority of good big fights in England and are delivering more often than not. Think the hate is a bit more pantomime than genuine most of the time. He’s not without his faults, but he puts on big fights which is what it’s all about

Re: Edward Hearn
Matchroom fights are overrated, there are not many fights that really interest me, but i do think he is a great promoter.
When he promotes his fights, he gets so much positive feedback from the causal fans, because he is a good salesman.
I think the fights this year are better on warrens cards but warren promotion side of things is not as good, so it does not get much attention.
for example liam smith and williams card is a really good fight, with a good undercard but not going to have many people watching it because its not Hearn.
I also thin Warren is far better at finding talent than Hearn. As hearn gets alot of his fighters from either warren or olympicans. The ones that are not from either of them, are not promoted as well like cheeseman and chamberlain.
We do need to get behind both promoters but if they have cards on the same day, people need to choice the best cards not who they like as a promoter.so that neither promoter get complacent

Re: Edward Hearn
British boxing is in a far better position than it was before Eddie came along.
I think that he has done a very good job and I'm afraid ppv is necessary to secure his boxers the paydays they deserve.
Saying that, I think it's taking the piss making British title fights ppv (ala Joshua v Whyte) and it stinks of greed. So he hasn't got everything right. And I keep hearing the suggestion that he doesn't give away fighters proper notice so as to try and give his fighter an advantage, which is piss poor.
The monopoly with Sky doesn't sit completely well but the rise of the likes of ITV and box-nation/BT has meant that domestic fighters can earn decent dollar without having to go exclusively with Eddie and Sky, although Sky definitely gives the best exposure.

Eddie ain't no div, he knows what he's up to
Re: Edward Hearn
Do you think boxing fans would watch a matchroom card out of loyalty to Hearn even if there’s better fights on another channel? I doubt itiestynvenables wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 15:18 Matchroom fights are overrated, there are not many fights that really interest me, but i do think he is a great promoter.

Warrenputs on the odd cracking fight, but let’s not kid ourselves, they are in the minority. He used to pad out fighters records massively with out matched opponents and then look to sneak a WBO title or something
Can’t say believing Hearn puts on better shows overall makes someone a casual
People like to go against the guy in favour sometimes I think
Re: Edward Hearn
Tall poppy syndrome.
If he was fat, ugly and a shit promoter he'd be far more popular.

Re: Edward Hearn
I'm not a fan because of the multiple PPV's
However, Sky are showing more shows now - An evenings boxing again this Saturday and Wilder later (because of AJ), whilst less seems to be showing on BN (empty weekends for live US shows more frequent)

ALot of people who watch boxing on sky, dont watch other cards and mock them because they hear the other card hasnot sold many tickets,
Warren fights have been better the conlan fight, boy jones jr vs poxon poxon vs woodstock. Hearn also has his fighters have padded records look at these olympicans fighting taxi driver but they have alot more experience than warren fighters.
I think hearn puts on better events than overall cards but if someone prefers matchroom over cards is not a casuals but what i think makes a casuals is someone who only watches matchroom cards, and there is alot of them.
if he made better cards then i would be happy i like the monaco card, i love the next rocky fielding fight looks really good but the amount of ppvs on matchroom and itv is pissing me off. i hope both matchroom and bt even channel 5 and itv are successful and not be complacent then its happy days for uk boxing

Yes ok see some of the points you’re making. The type of guys who only understand boxing exists on Sky are casuals.iestynvenables wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 18:20 "Do you think boxing fans would watch a matchroom card out of loyalty to Hearn even if there’s better fights on another channel? I doubt it

I don’t think Hearn pads like warren though. I feel he’s a more aggressive match maker and willing to throw his fighters in. He’s also been able to get some real good opponents on his cards, like linares and Golovkin, Spence etc
I too hope the other channels/companies show good boxing, even channel Dave with Hayes venture. Just like to see good fights ultimately.
Unfortunately re PPV I think it’s the way of the business now. Quite annoying if you already pay subscriptions etc, but I think it’s here to stay. If BT, ITV etc are successful it’ll force the prices and shows to be competitive hopefully
Re: Edward Hearn
I think he's a good promoter in the sense that he knows how to get the 'casuals' interested in his PPVs. Just how much of that is down to him and how much is down to the 24/7 PR machine that is Sky Sports will be easier to judge when we see him without that backing in the States. The other side to being a promoter, however, which is putting on very good shows with well matched and entertaining fights is where he's lacking imo. I understand the need for giving young fighters such as the Olympians, Benn and O'Hara consistent airtime, but the vast majority of fans would much rather see well matched British title fights rather than prospects knocking over journeymen. Also think he's got a really strange eye for "FOTY contenders" - he seemed convinced that the likes of Murray-Rosado and Crolla-Burns would be brilliant fights, when again the vast majority of fans knew they'd probably be relatively one-paced fights with little drama between non-punchers. The idea that Dillian Whyte is a world class Heavyweight baffles me as well, can't for the life of me understand his thinking in putting that on as chief support on a PPV, it had stinker written all over it.

Re: Edward Hearn
yeh i do think Hearn has been good recently bringing fighter over recently really good but it was only two half years ago they had brook vs gavin because they couldnot get any come over. hopefully with bt money they bring good people over, which in the first year bringing davis and monroe over is good and hopefully they both bring good opposition, i also wish both of them need to get their fighters to fight each other, on both cards, work together to make british boxing even better,
fans go on about how good british cards are but they still not a patch on the us, especially showtimes cards have been fantastic.
Make the product better by just having about three or 4 competive fights on main tv, the rest not shown or shown on facebook
