Re: Edward Hearn
He's the first big promoter of the Internet age. It was always a key part of a promoter's job to hype up fights, but these days you just order Kugan out Roger-Cooking. Fighters themselves share their wisdom on Twitter, and we collate it all and chat about it on forums and Facebook.
Promoters are no longer visible components beyond bookings, really, and I haven't seen Hearn doing anything to that end, so I dunno if he's any good. I'd have to be with him when he phones around. Maybe he gets things done with charisma and a lot of smart reasoning; or maybe he does more harm than good...

Yep the fact that no one has mentioned Hearn at all in the scandal certainly makes me suspicious, I suggest a witch huntboxingknockout wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 19:03 Does anyone think Eddie is involved in the Harvey Weinstein controversy?!
Re: Edward Hearn
Sure, but I get the impression he has still worked bloody hard. A mate of mine got left a scrap metal business at aged 28 when his Dad died. Very nice too - a ready made business handed to you at that age, but since then he's transformed the bloody operation in scale through working about 60-70 hours a week. He literally works like a Nazi and is now a multi-millionaire.boxingknockout wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 18:11Yes..... that and the fact his Dad basically shoehorned him into success
All I'm saying is some people do indeed start out very privileged, but plenty squander it through laziness and/or incompetence, whereas others work hard and make the most of things. I'd stick Eddie in that latter bracket and have no problems with the guy.
Re: Edward Hearn
Hearn‘s good for the sport, no doubt about it. He does well by the boxers and the fans. If the opportunity is there, he always seems to make it happen.

Re: Edward Hearn
Eddie quite often mentions , we got this fight , we got that fight , and there earning a lot of money ,, he says things often like , were paying him life changing money ,, he talks about how boxers have got to relize , if they want top money , its got to be ppv so they have to fight the best ,, All this talk is a breath of fresh air after years and years of allegedly putting on piss poor fights with the house fighter only having to turn up to win .
Eddie has even managed to walk the walk with a few of the fights he's put on ,, so the question remains ,, WHY have the guys who are free agents not rushed to sign with him , WHY is the current stock of fighters he has starting to dwindle ,, is it because he does'nt pay has well has he suggests or is it he demands the best fight each other , any thoughts

Re: Edward Hearn
The pudendum ringfenced the main television platform, therefore monopolising the largest income stream to the British game and that is comfortably the biggest reason he has been the biggest promoter, with the best stable making the biggest cards in the country.
Let's not start blowing smoke up the guys arse about his work ethic or like he's doing some wonderful job managing his fighters careers that another promoter couldn't.
There were a few promoters with a finger in the Sky pie then he pulled (admittedly a masterstoke) and scooped it all up for himself, advancing the careers of his stable while instantly putting a massive road block in the way of fighters promoted elsewhere. For a time Eddie was close to being the only show in town.
Others had to get creative with mixed success.
FW creates his own challenge and if reports are true, had to be heavily financed to keep it ticking over at tines before he managed to secure the BT deal.
Others have tried terestrial channels but the funding will be limited there and there's not the air time option you get on a dedicated sport channel.
We've had Spike and Dave
We've had internet based shows
We've had others chasing their own ppv model
Do you not think the promoters working these angles are working relentlessly to pull of things that Eddie can manage with a simple stroke of a pen, knowing he has numerous dates secured every season?

I disagree with so much ppv but I still buy them all. boxing was way worse without him and he is the main reason for the resurgance of the sport in the UK. If I was him if stick to the UK and fcuk the US but that's the drive in the man that has made him so successful. Fair play Edward and keep the good night's coming.

Said it before & will say it again ... Eddie Hearn & Matchroom have done a good job, imo they have raised the profile of boxing in this country.
My only criticism is too many PPVs ... but there again I will contradict that by stating I understand why & that is if we want the big fights PPV is the only way we will get them.
A question for you all ... Mr W arren or Mr Hearn ... whos done the better job on the Sky platform .. I say Mr Hearn by a country mile.

Re: Edward Hearn
I think on the whole that Eddie has done an excellent job for British boxing.
He's opened his cheque book and brought top stars like Gennady Golovkin and Wladimir Klitschsko over to these shores. And I think, in the end - he will bring Deontay Wilder over as well for the unification against AJ.
Also, how many times has he got his fighters in for World title bouts? I'm sure it has to be 20+ already when you go up and down all the weight divisions and him getting them in for vacant World titles, etc...
Yeah - all in all, I think he's been brilliant for us. And I do honestly believe that he wants to put the big fights on and have the best fighting the best.

But I do agree that Hearn has been miles better on Sky than FW ever was, and I do prefer his matchmaking style.

Hearn has brought bigger names over than Warren ever did, and generally puts on bigger shoes that generate more interest.Spud wrote: ↑13 Nov 2017, 10:40 Said it before & will say it again ... Eddie Hearn & Matchroom have done a good job, imo they have raised the profile of boxing in this country.

Warren has struggled to get the likes of Saunders and Flanagan known beyond a very small circle of people despite them being world champions. I mean, Flanagan is a desperate case for this sort of thing. The possibilities for him were huge and he moves up in weight for what reason?

Re: Edward Hearn
On the Sky platform was the question. Fair comment regarding Tyson, but who did he fight? Savarese and Francis? They were glorified exhibitions really. The Klitschkos were pretty much unknown at the time - Vitali was a sizeable outsider to beat Herbie Hide.mickey1975 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 07:59Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Both Klitchkos, Tapia, McClellan, I could go on... You're as stuck in the past as Frank is, talking about what happened in 1990 rather than now. Look at Flanagan. He's been a world champion for a while, he's in a division where you have Garcia and Linares talking about fighting him, you've got a massive fight on the table with Crolla who genuinely is fighting Linares himself, and what happens? No big fights, a few Orlando Cruz type fights, and a move in weight. Garbage.

Ok... Who has Hearn brought over? Wlad at 41, Linares, who went life and death with Mitchell, Charles Martin? Name one fight bigger in the trade than Benn-McClellan, please. Or a better night than when Tapia came over. Fwank was even part of the Witherspoon team that beat Bruno and, going offshore, promoted Barerra-Morales 1!

Wlad was a world champ on a Lennox bill! Come on! Then the Naz years... First English promoter to sell out MSG, think there was 7,000 there last week nearby. Half comps.

I don't think anyone would argue that Warren was a top promoter in the late 80s/90s and most of the 2000s but it's an long long time since those fights you mentioned.mickey1975 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 08:26 Ok... He's promoting Frampton's big homecoming this weekend and, surprisingly given the card, tickets are still available.
Wlad may have been 41 and Linares may have had a tough fight with Mitchell but they were both still the best fights that could have been made for his fighters and Linares was generally considered to be the top dog at lightweight.
