Dillian Whyte Slams WBC

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Dillian Whyte has slammed the decision to make the winner of Dominic Breazeale vs. Eric Molina mandatory challenger for the WBC world heavyweight title.

Americans Breazeale and Molina, who have both challenged for world titles in the past but been stopped every time, clash on the undercard of Deontay Wilder's defence of the WBC crown against Bermane Stiverne in Brooklyn on Nov. 4.

A statement on the WBC website read: "This fight will be a final elimination, a fact that adds an extra ingredient of motivation to excel, whatever the odds."

Breazeale is ranked sixth by the WBC with Molina down in 12th but both have been granted the opportunity to secure a shot at the winner of Wilder vs. Stiverne -- despite several UK fighters calling for a clash with 'The Bronze Bomber' in early 2018.

Whyte, who is ranked third by the same governing body and outpointed Robert Helenius last month, told ESPN: "I've fought for all these WBC eliminators and I've got three WBC belts. If anyone deserves a final eliminator it's me. I at least have to fight the Breazeale vs. Molina winner.

"I'm the highest-ranked WBC fighter outside of Wilder. This Breazeale vs. Molina is a terrible fight and Breazeale should win in two or three rounds. Molina is coming off an awful performance and has shown no ambition.

"I still want Wilder as my next opponent. We'll try to get that. As far as I know, I'm still No. 1 challenger. Once Stiverne loses, I should be mandatory. The rankings will change in the next few days and I should be No. 1."

Whyte's promoter, Eddie Hearn, responded to the news on social media by saying: "I don't believe this is correct -- neither are even in the top five -- Dillian is the highest rated contender as [sic] is ready to fight."

The WBC have been doing their level best to retain that title in America for a good while now.
I looked at their rankings not long after Wilder won the title and it was filled with North American based fighters in the top 10

While I don't believe it's a total conspiracy, I do think you have a valid point Davie.
Whyte has all their minor belts now, so what the WBC is saying is they mean nothing. You would think if you have their silver belt (especially) that you are the #1 contender :maybe:

Maybe they're starting to think like the rest of us?

But yeah, this is so poor from the WBC - if you have a pointless belt like the version Whyte holds, then surely he would be the next in line?

Whyte definitely has a legitimate gripe, although he may not be any more or less deserving than either Brezeale or Molina, I'm pretty sure the rules are that a final eliminator should be contested between two fighters in the top five.

Considering neither man is in the top five and Molina isn't even in the top ten, I'm sure there will be quite a few fighters pissed off with this decision.

WBC have form though, Wilder himself became mandatory for Strivene by winning an eliminator against Scott, who at the time was ranked outside the top ten.

I thought the Whyte-Helenius eliminator could of been one of the highlights in Cardiff.

Helenius didn’t show, Whyte didn’t go through gears and the WBC backtracked.

What a pointless fight, in hindsight.

Don't like Whyte but he has a point. There are a dozen fighters more suitable than Molina.

I was thinking he under-performed on purpose.. but looking backm, it's kind of how he always fights. WBC probably regret sanctioning the fight

Regardless of how the fight went,i'm sure it won't say in the contract that fighter A has to beat fighter B by an impressive ko to ensure the mandatory spot,Wilder,so far has hand picked every single one of his opponents, some are not all his fault but come on,fight a live opponent for gods sake.

When it all kicked off between Wilder and Breazeale in Feb, I knew the fight would be made within a year.. and it looks like i'm half way correct.
