Roberto Duran: Rigondeaux Gives Lomachenko a Boxing Lesson
One of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all-time, Roberto 'Hands of Stone' Duran, is fully backing Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) to defeat WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs).
Duran himself has moved up in weight when he was a pro and knows the dangers and the benefits of packing on more pounds to challenge bigger men. He believes Rigondeaux will be a far more dangerous force at the higher weight limit.
"It's a very good fight, but I'm going with Rigondeaux," said Duran to ESPN Deportes.
"Rigo is going to be stronger, he's going to be faster and the punching power is going to increase more. People are deceived, because they think that when you gain weight you are automatically going to get slow and lose power - but that's a lie. When you gain weight - you are stronger, faster and you punch harder.
"That fight will be good but I'll stay with the Cuban, he's more alive, he's going to move, he's going to move away [from punches], and he's not going to allow himself to be beaten. It's going to be the same outcome as Rigondeaux and Donaire. He gave Donaire a boxing lesson in the ring. I always remember well what Donaire said, that he was going to give Rigo a boxing lesson. And Rigo said 'you have nothing to teach me, I had 200 fights [as an amateur],' and the guy gave a boxing lesson to Nonito."

He's absolutely right that the weight won't be an issue.
Re: Roberto Duran: Rigondeaux Gives Lomachenko a Boxing Lesson
I don't expect it'll be an issue either, but the higher workrate, and youthful vigor of the younger Lomachenko will be. Both are experienced as all hell so that's a wash.

I think the same, despite I have the feeling most people think otherwise.
Rigondeaux even trains with Tyrone Spong.

I think loma wins still
Part of me wants rigo just so the loma nuthuggers will have to calm down a bit

Lomachecko fans are a bit delirious BUT he is supremely talented.
So we end up with the situation where you have to call guys who are like a 90/100 overrated,
because their fans are rating them at 125/100.

Rigo-Donaire was in 2013.
37 is ancient for smaller weigh classes.
Giving up 8 pounds and 8 years to the double Olympic champion cannot be a good thing.
And i'm pretty sure Loma has the better chin.

I can't play Donaire's chin.
For a few years before the Walters fight,
Nonito was getting hit flush because he began boxing so recklessly.
He never flinched.

Ha ha I just think Rigo has a more rounded/solid game, all the bouncing around switching angles that Loma does is good but a massive exertion of energy and think he will come a cropper to a more measured fighter like Rigo
Re: Roberto Duran: Rigondeaux Gives Lomachenko a Boxing Lesson
just curious mate, why do you think rigo has been down/rocked so much, even by guys like amagasa (couldnt even beat warrington)? doesnt really fit with him being this sensation who is gonna move up the weight at his age to beat loma. loma overrated but rigo prob even more imo. he gets hit far more than ppl think. or at least he gets bothered when he does get hit. so many ppl just totally ignore it though.

Rigo cashed out. He will be a good boy. Beside power, he got no skill better than Loma's, and at this weight, we don't even know how good his power will be.

Probably guilty of fighting at his opponents level at timesjamamb wrote: ↑04 Nov 2017, 15:46just curious mate, why do you think rigo has been down/rocked so much, even by guys like amagasa (couldnt even beat warrington)? doesnt really fit with him being this sensation who is gonna move up the weight at his age to beat loma. loma overrated but rigo prob even more imo. he gets hit far more than ppl think. or at least he gets bothered when he does get hit. so many ppl just totally ignore it though.

Loma wins by mid round stoppage.
Rigo has a shaky jaw and has been dropped by lesser fighters. He's a KO waiting to happen.
