Marcos Maidana Does Not Miss Boxing, Views Broner as Best Win

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana is best remembered for his two fight series with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and being the first man to defeat Adrien Broner in what was a major upset at the time, and the unexpected upset of Victor Ortiz - who at the time was being groomed by HBO to be the next Oscar De La Hoya.

Maidana, who is only 34 years of age, made a fortune in his last three fights and decided to walk away from the sport a few months following his September 2014 rematch loss to Mayweather.

"It was time to leave, I had two big fights with Mayweather, I could not win and my career was successful until that moment. I got tired, I had no reason to continue, now I feel good, enjoying my family. I do not miss of boxing," said Maidana to ESPN Deportes.

With a record of 35-5 and 31 knockouts, Maidana confessed that today he enjoys what he has achieved in boxing, but nothing more than that.

"I do a little bit of everything. What I like to do is walking the countryside, fishing, being with my family, walking, shopping sometimes, it was exhausting, I had a lot of time dedicating myself to boxing, but I thank [the fans] - that's why I was dedicated, had the desire, dedication and sacrifice, I remained calm, I'm grateful with boxing," said Maidana.

And what were Maidana's best moments in his career.

"All of my opponents were tough, my best night was when I beat Broner, I did not lack anything with Mayweather, I left everything [in the ring]," Maidana said.

Maidana now supports the career of his undefeated younger brother, Fabian Maidana, and the current "regular" World Boxing Association 154-pound champion Brian Castano.

"Argentine boxing is calm for now, but there are several good prospects like Fabian Maidana or Brian Castano, who are going to make noise wherever they go, little by little they will grow," Maidana said.

He reportedly earned $10 million from his Mayweather fights.. He did enough to warrant a rematch from the first fight, and that set him up for life..

I think it's natural to 'not miss boxing' from retired boxers. Some do say they have that urge and kick to get back in there, but I think for Maidana, it was just mostly securing that money for himself and his family.

His best win was probably Broner..

Also, I think he lost to more better fighters than he won.

Broner definitely was most satisfying. There was nothing better at the time than to see a cocky moronic Adrien get his ass whooped like that.

I did not vote via the poll because i personally feel that Maidana's best victory was against Floyd in that first fight. He was absolutely robbed. How judges elected to give Floyd some of those early rounds while his back was against the ropes not throwing any punches shows you how his usual judge club that he pays for was on the take. At worst, Maidana earned a draw in that fight. Robbed. Sure, Floyd won the second fight but he did not win the first one.

Deserves immense credit. One of many examples of a fighter getting out with his bearings and plenty of earnings. Success story.

One of my favorite fighters in my time as a fan. Enjoyed his career immensely. I agree with him that Broner is his best official win, but I thought he deserved the nod in the 1st Mayweather fight as well personally.

Very fun, exciting fighter who improved his skill after getting embarrassed in a one sided defeat to Devon Alexander.

Proud to have been a fan of his, and glad he's doing well. I hope Castano and his brother Fabian can rise to a level that makes them as much fun to watch. I'll be rooting for 'em.

How many rds did you gave maidana in first fight?

I dq'd floyd in the second fight for excessicly holding. If bayless cant apply the rules than i will.

I think I had it 115-113 in Maidana's favor. So 7.

I don't recall a lot of excessive holding in the rematch, I recall more of Kenny Bayless separating them every time they got close to each other, whether they were holding or not. He just basically didn't even give Maidana the chance to fight on the inside in the rematch.

I only recall one time in all the Boxing matches I've watched (and it's been oodles of them) that I've ever seen somebody DQ'd for holding, and they changed the ruling of that to a TKO just to keep Mike Tyson's KO streak (at the time) alive. So basically I've NEVER seen somebody officially DQ'd for holding.

It's rare to even see point deductions for it actually.

Agree and this was my vote, I thought he would beat broner, but it remained a sweet victory. Maidana was one my fave fighters for years and it's good to hear him seemingly content.
