Did Floyd and Manny fans ruin boxing?

Post by BAD INTENTIONS »

I used to have a bias against Manny fans, as I thought they represented the more delusional of the set,
but it has come apparent TO ME, that the Floyd and Manny fan have come to accept "boxing" as:

1. Fighters are active if theye fight 2 times a year.
2. ABC organizations are "good" and titles "matter".
3. Even though they all do the same things, some promoters are "good".
4. Even though they all do the same things, some networks are "good".
5. Fighters have the power to dictate who, where and when they will fight.

No one told them that Floyd and Manny come from a boxing Dark Age,
so these new fans come to think, "THIS IS THE WAY BOXING IS".

You got boxing "fans" defending Arum and the WBC
totally based on love for Manny and Floyd.

Maybe DLH fans were the root ...

1. Fighting twice a year is active by today’s standards. In fact I’d take that if it was guaranteed, many don’t even achieve 2 fights a year
2. Agree
3. Disagree, some promoters are better than others
4. Some networks are better than others
5. They have some power, but are pretty restricted in some ways

Quality over quantity!!!

Look at records from henry armstrong or srr, they sometimes fought 12 times a year and look at the records of these opponents, bad opponents, with 4 wins 9 losses kind of records.

Than hell yes i prefer somebody like manny whofought 2 times a year but the caliber of opponents he was fighting were like morales, marquez or cotto!

Who cares about titles, promoters!?

Dont waste your thoughts on this, the only 2 thing important in boxing is what me and dlh say all the time: the best should fight the best. Second, in a entertaining fashion/end

In times past, boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson loaded their records with inept competition... Guys that they could run over... They avoided guys who were very good skilled boxers and fought 3rd raters instead... Boxing was controlled by the mob... Even Robinson ended broke and beaten down... Joe Louis as well.. Lou Nova once said "Professional Boxing is a job for dead enders. Things are probably not going to go well for you."

True.

I mean i dont want to take greatness away from past boxer. I hopeyou too.

But it is fact. The record shows it. They had 250 fights and 200 were like sparring against crap opponents and 50 against real deal competition just like todays boxer.

The funny part is. Boxers from the past get ranked at the top because they had over 100 sometimes 200 fights and everybody is amazed. But when loma has over 200 amateur fight than he gets 0 credit. Au contraore, people say who cares about amateur boxing.
