Now the heavyweight crown is the "most prized possession in sport" and the WBC's green belt is the one everyone wants to get their hands on.
But is there a single title in recent years, from any ABC mob at any weight class, that has contested by so many duds?
Since Vitali faced Lewis in 2004, lets look at the contestants.
Corrie Sanders
Danny Williams
Hasim Rahman (x5)
Monte Barret
James Toney
Oleg Maskaev (x3)
Okello Peter
Samuel Peter (x3)
Jameel McCline
Juan Carlos Gomez
Chris Arreola (x3)
Kevin Johnson
Albert Sosnowski
Shannon Briggs (x2)
Odlanier Solis
Tomasz Adamek
Dereck Chisora
Manuel Charr
Bermane Stiverne (x3)
Eric Molina
Johann Duhaupas
Artur Szpilka
Gerald Washington
Deontay Wilder (x7)
Vitali Klitschko (x13)
In the bracket is how many times they have been in a WBC title match and underlined if they held the title.
Now if you take out the 2 long running champions, that is atrocious list of names to have contested your title.
Of course the 2 long running champs have a lot to answer for but the governing body has to be forcing the best fights and ranking the top fighters.
It's almost like they have spent the last 13 years trying to devalue their greatest prize
Is there a worse title than the WBC heavyweight crown?

For what was the most prized belt to hold it is a pretty sad list of challengers, the other governing bodies are as bad though. It keeps coming back to the fact there are too many titles to fight for, most on the list would never have got the chance in the past, they are simply not good enough.

The myriad versions of the WBA have been even worse, from the moment Lewis vacated rather than fight John Ruiz. Real horror show stuff, nadir probably the Ruiz-Valuev mauls which more closely resembled 1980s British wrestling.

That's because the only decent heavyweight champ in ages has been Wlad.

Kevin Johnson
Odlanier Solis
Tomasz Adamek
Dereck Chisora
Manuel Charr
Vitali Klitschko (x13)
- The above without brackets were Vitali's best opponents and legit contenders at the time Vitali fought them, and Wilder has yet to face anyone near that caliber. WBC has become the World Boxing Crayon title where the kids get to color in a profile of Deyonce.

However, as critical as I am of Bum squad, he would flatten pretty much every one of those. Vitali had a woeful run of opponents and I say that as a fan of the big guy

But the Corrie sanders that ran over Wlad would be a problem for him for sure. I wouldn’t rule out Peter either.
Solus if in shape causes him big problems in a totally different way
The rest I agree
