national title fights held in another country
Noticed that in 1988 Steve Collins fought Sam Storey for the vacant Irish middleweight title in.... Boston USA , can't say I've come across this situation before, have there been others ?
Re: national title fights held in another country
I've never heard of anything like that either, but that is definitely unusual.

I'll go one better. Howard Smith fought Tony Doyle with the California State heavyweight title on the line. In Japan.

I think around '75 or '76. I was really following Smith at the time and couldn't understand that one at all.

Joe Bugner and Scott Welch "nearly" had a British and Commonwealth title fight in Germany.
Scott was the reigning champ but the Board of Control would not sanction big Joe so the fight was shifted to Germany and they fought for some sort of Intercontinental trinket Scott had picked-up along the way.
Bit of a sad affair by all accounts, empty hall and Joe signing off a great career in front of the janitor and Welch not gaining a whole heap either.
