The same as I've always viewed him.
He's a gatekeeper. Nothing more nothing less

This. He's been overrated his whole career; the fights he's lost he was never going to win at any point in his career.tiny_acres wrote: ↑05 Nov 2017, 23:05 The same as I've always viewed him.

He has a pretty bright financial future being the measuring stick for the upcoming crop of Euro's. He'll likely be fighting Yoka or Hrgovic in the not too distant future. He'll probably miss Dychko since he's fighting out of the States I believe.
Re: Del Boy's Future?
Well payed journeyman , same has he's been for a long time
Re: Del Boy's Future?
Has he ever beaten someone who wasn't a journeyman?

Retire what's he going to achieve now he hasn't done. He's done well for the ability he has.
The only fight relevant for him was Whyte rematch but Whyte wanted too much money.
Absolute travesty. Leonard and Duran could rematch 5 months later and these two couldn't. Pathetic

Re: Del Boy's Future?
He'll carry on doing what he's always done.. he'll win some and lose some.
He's one fighter that doesn't give a rats *ss about his record.. he'll likely retire in a few years time, ending in 8 rounders with a record of like 38-15 or sumat like that..
When he wants to perform, we know he can. He didn't take Kabayel seriously either, not saying he would have won.. but he didn't seem motivated.. Hearn stil says it doesn't change the face that people still want to the a Whyte vs Chisora rematch.. do you?

Re: Del Boy's Future?
He knows he'll never be a world title holder, but he loves fighting and still we be paid decent sums for each fight. He's still got a lucrative career ahead of him. I'd like him to be put in with all of the hyped up and comers, like Dubois, Gorman etc to see how they fair against a top level journey man.

Re: Del Boy's Future?
If chisora is a euro level gatekeeper/journeyman, how is whyte who in the eyes of many lost to chisora world level?
Both to me are euro level and no higher.

Re: Del Boy's Future?
Whyte is clearly on a similar level, but at least with Whyte you know he's going to give it a go. You don't know what you're going to get with Del - he could have won at the weekend if he'd just upped his workrate a round or two earlier (that's going off the judges scorecards, I had Kabayel winning by miles)
Re: Del Boy's Future?
He is a journeyman which used to be an acceptable position in the sport. A guy who was not spectacular and a bit of a workhorse with a decent engine and not someone you could nap against. Would beat the lower and mid ranks but lose to the world and fringe level, but would occasionally nick a win or a razor thin debated loss at fringe level.

The Whyte rematch is all what’s worthwhile for chisora

Re: Del Boy's Future?
I agree with above, Chisora has never been world class, same for Whyte.
Re: Del Boy's Future?
Well I'm glad to read some positive comments.
I like Del Boy, he is like that old Labrador. A little fat, sleeps most of the day and smells a little. But you pick up the shotgun and he sits at attention. And you blast a duck out over the lake and he will jump straight into that freezing water and go get it. Sure he will take ages and probably eat half the duck on the swim back, but he will drop whats left of it at your feet and wag his tail like he did when he was a pup.
I think British boxing still has a place for Del Boy.
Who is Tyson going to warm up against next year?
Del Boy
Who is going to give Dave Allen vital experience before he steps out from Blighty to take on Europe?
Del Boy.
He still has a good chin, a lot of experience, stamina to go 12. Instead of bringing those Eastern European fatards for up and coming British heavys, they don't learn anything from them. Del Boy will do it.
Let's not take him to the vet for the big needle, there is life in the old dog yet![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Del Boy's Future?
He's heading in to journeyman territory now. He should have a warm up fight to get a win and then try for the Whyte rematch. If that doesn't come off he should retire. He's had a decent career. Don't want to see him take too much punishment but from a selfish point of view I'd like to see the Whyte rematch because first fight was a cracker.
Re: Del Boy's Future?
Yea I would like to see that too. But until Whyte loses (which shouldn't be long) that is on the back burner. I think he makes the perfect journeyman and could make decent money at it too.Stuarty30 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2017, 06:40 He's heading in to journeyman territory now. Re: Del Boy's Future?
How far a fight is he away from taking on Joyce ?When you conskder how quickly they want to rush him
Re: Del Boy's Future?
I like your thinking. Potentially it could be Joyce's fourth fight. Joyce is the better boxer imo, but doesn't have huge KO power. IMO Delboy would be eating blow after blow for double digit rounds and be pulled out/stopped late on.
Usyk is touted by many as one of the best in the world, yet when he fought Joyce he was frustrated, at times found it difficult to cope with Joyce's relentless style and it was a pretty close fight.
Re: Del Boy's Future?
I agree about Joyce. I think Joyce beats him right now in a good fight. If a deal can be agreed with Sexton for the British next then I'd like to see Joyce defend against Del Boy after he wastes Sexton.Verdi wrote: ↑06 Nov 2017, 12:03I like your thinking. Re: Del Boy's Future?
Anyone who see him get a barely deserved decision over Tom Dallas in their ABA final would never have predicted he’d go on to have the career he has.
He’s overachieved.
His future? As said plenty times above, he could have a few decent paydays as a gatekeeper. I suspect he has a few quid plugged away anyway so if his heart isn’t in it anymore, then call it a day maybe?
