Errol Spence vs. Lamont Peterson January 20, 2018
Errol Spence Jr. will return to the ring just after the start of 2018.
BS.com has learned Spence will defend his IBF welterweight title against Lamont Peterson on January 13, Spence’s 28th birthday. Showtime is expected to televise the Spence-Peterson bout.
Spence’s return probably will be announced Saturday during a press conference in Brooklyn, before the start of Showtime’s 154-pound championship tripleheader from Barclays Center (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT). The site for the card headlined by Spence-Peterson hasn’t been confirmed.
The 27-year-old Spence (22-0, 19 KOs) had hoped to box again before the end of this year, but a crowded calendar prevented that from happening. The powerful southpaw hasn’t fought since he traveled to Kell Brook’s hometown of Sheffield, England, and knocked out Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) in the 11th round May 27 to win the IBF 147-pound championship.
The 33-year-old Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs) will end an even longer layoff than Spence. The Washington, D.C., native last boxed February 18, when he defeated Russia’s David Avanesyan (22-2-1, 11 KOs) by unanimous decision in a 12-rounder to win the WBA world welterweight title in Cincinnati.
Peterson has since vacated his version of the WBA’s welterweight title. That victory over Avanesyan represented Peterson’s only fight in the past two years.

Crowded calendar? That's hilarious.

Adequate match-up. Would have preferred that Peterson been more active, though.

It is rather funny. Showtime have plenty of dates and have had, that he could have fought.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Crowded calendar? That's hilarious.
I hope Spence fights 3 times next year.

Agreed. I wonder why Lamont has been out of the ring so long, or what fights he might have tried to make that fell through.Lackeos wrote:Adequate match-up. Would have preferred that Peterson been more active, though.

Just being a pbc fighter. He fought not too long ago.SFW wrote:Agreed. I wonder why Lamont has been out of the ring so long, or what fights he might have tried to make that fell through.Lackeos wrote:Adequate match-up. Would have preferred that Peterson been more active, though.

I had a hunch this was going to be Spence's nesxt fight. Peterson has looked pretty good in his last couple fights and is a tough veteran. I expect Spence to win comfortably, but I don't think he'll KO Peterson.

You don't sit for a year then fight Errol Spence Jr.
You don't sit for a year then fight Vasyl Lomachenko.
I think boxing promoters have done this bullshit for years,
and the stupid fans, like Saad
and the majority of you here,
fall for it EVERY TIME.
All of these crooks (Arum, Haymon, whoever ...) have guys like Peterson and Walters.
You know that they'll never be stars, but they are great resume builders,
and they could give your money fighter an entertaining showdown.
But you DON'T want then to win.
It's one think when cowards like Floyd and DLH tip every factor ($, ring size, glove brand, weight, etc) in the fight to their favor.
But when your employer, the one who you trust to make you a star,
schemes to make you lose in order to protect the other employee they like more,
you are not an athlete, not even a man who decides his fate fairly in athletic competition. You are a tool.

Short version.
I'm done supporting these big name, poorly planned fights,
that clearly favor one fighter before they step in the ring.

Pointless fight. Spence should be doing bigger things than this.
Re: Errol Spence vs. Lamont Peterson January 20, 2018
I don’t think it’s too bad a fight tbh. I favour Spence quite heavily, but Peterson is a lot better than some of the trash that do get title shots. I’m a Kell Brook fan, but Peterson would have been his best 147 opponent after Porter. So we can’t be too hard on Spence.
It’s a decent fight. It’s not a super fight, but not every fight is a golovkin vs canelo type mega fight

Yeh, it's definately a fight I'm going to watch.. Peterson is not a bad fighter at all.. he doesn't just stand and do nothing.. he knows how to hurt opponents..Ossyrules wrote: ↑05 Nov 2017, 15:14 I don’t think it’s too bad a fight tbh. Garcia for one who already beat peterson who fought a completely idiotic fight. I'd rather see him fight porter if sticking to PBC fighters. Peterson isn't bad but he has zero chance of winning.

See I don't understand what GARCIA Is duin.. he's finally lost his '0', and now going to take some time off.. for what? It's not like he's badly injired? I'd give him a chance against Spence..
Saying he has zero chance vs Spence is like saying Takam had zero chance against AJ.. we're not always going to see the best of beat fights..
Re: Errol Spence vs. Lamont Peterson January 20, 2018
Maybe you saw DG fight Peterson then. I thought Peterson won. Spence tried to get Garcia before Peterson, and Porter said he would probably eventually fight Spence but was going in a different direction right now. Horn mentioned his name, but that is about as far as he went. Thurman is still out, and will stall. Crawford will, but we all know that won't happen anytime soon. Spence even said he would fight the Canelo GGG winner. Tall order for him but he is game. Maybe Brook rematch?

Brook needs 2,3 maybe even 4 fights to rebuild and go again, at 154. Preferably starting off with a guy not of the calibre of an ATG power puncher at 160 like golovkin, or a Spence who looks to be very solid puncher at 147.Badhusker wrote: ↑06 Nov 2017, 08:43Maybe you saw DG fight Peterson then. If he can crank up the opposition for another go at mixing with the elite at 154 I wouldn’t be averse to seeing brook in with Spence again. But the Spence defeat hurt him bad, he needs to be 1000% commited

If Brook stays around for another 5 years, Spence may likely move up to 154.. Brook will be 35 and Spence 32/33.. We could see a rematch at 154?
